I finally got around to making the backing for Cats in Pajamas. I printed out a label, and inked it onto some Kona Limelight.
I had bought this Kaffe fabric with the big flowers specifically for this quilt's backing. I used the leftover linen fabric that is the background on the front. But, there wasn't enough so I added some Kona Limelight which is close in color but not the same to fill in the blanks.
Darrell and I set up his studio for taking photos of a few of my quilts and he took the photos.
I got the quilt I'm So Blue (formally known as the Blue Slabs) trimmed, binding made and sewn on and now it's done! I used that African fabric with the bright orange hexagons for the binding.
I'm really enjoying making these scrap quilts. And, it feels good to clear out some of old fabrics from the stash.
I finished the quilting on I'm So Blue, formally known as Blue Slabs. I had nothing but trouble with the program for this quilting pattern. But, I got it done.
I trimmed it and made the binding and sewed it onto the backing and plan to roll it onto the front and finish it tomorrow. Stay tuned.
I've been quilting on the Blue Slabs project - which I have renamed "I'm So Blue". I'm using a computer program that looks a bit like a Baptist Fan pattern. I've always liked the look of that.
It's almost done. Just a couple more passes to make.
I think I've finally figured out how to do Sherri Lynn Wood's Floating Squares. I'm using those Aqua squares I cut out the other day and some yellow Art Gallery fabric.
It's a lot of fun, too!
Here's the improv block for Week 38 of Cheryl Arkison's Quilters Playcation 2024. I used up some of the scraps I've been accumulating.
Darrell's been busy for the last few months working on making two Gamble Dining Tables, one for a client and one for us. Today he was taking photos of ours and I snapped this picture as I was leaving the shop.
As I was winding orange thread onto a bobbin for the longarm, the blue thread, from the top of the machine, accidently got it's tail caught up in the process. It was winding both threads onto the bobbin! No! That won't do. I quickly stopped it, but look at this mess. Oh well. A little unwinding and it will all be fine.
I thought of a name for the Blue Slabs project. It will be called "I'm So Blue". I think that is a line from a Billie Eilish song. It came up in a search. I've never heard the song, nor listened to Billie Eilish. But, it's a good name for this quilt.
So, I put it on the label. Then I got to work making the backing. I used oranges from my stash. Mostly fabrics I thought I'd probably never use.
And, after a long day of pressing, cutting, measuring and sewing, I got it done.
I decided I had to push forward and finish the top of the Blue Slabs. I've been spending the last few days working on them. Today I got the last of it done.
It's a top! And, it needs a name. And a backing. And a label.

I saw Sherri Lynn Wood's Instagram post about cutting scraps into squares and I got motivated.
I grabbed my Aqua Scrap Bucket and started cutting, no ruler.
I now have a pile of squares all different sizes.
I sorted the scraps that remain in the Blue scrap bucket. There were a lot of small bits. So, I sewed some together and ended up with two Log Cabin type blocks.
There's still lots of littles left.
In a glaring act of procrastination, I got out the Blue scrap bucket and started making more blue Slabs. It was great fun for a while - until I started sewing the them together. They are pretty much all partial seams.
The Improv 4-Patch quilt, Clarksville is finished, done.
I had just enough grey fabric for the binding.
I guess I didn't mention it, but I've been quilting on the 4-patch quilt I made during the first session of Quiltfolk's Break the Rules.
I've named it Clarksville because the original was found in Clarksville and the quilt didn't have a name other than 4-Patch. Now it does.
Anyway, I've been working on quilting it for several days now. I finished today.
It's all computerized.
Here's my interpretation of Cheryl Arkison's Quilters Playcation 2024 improv block. And, once again I didn't follow directions too closely.
Darrell and I went to Puyallup to the Washington State Fair. We haven't attended in years, so it was about time. And, I had entered three quilts into the show and I had to go see them.

We saw the baby piglets, only a few days old.
It was something different and great fun. But, since it was going to be a very hot day and we left at noon.
I trimmed the batting and cut the backing to one inch. I rolled the backing up and over the front and top stitched it down on the three sides.
The top, with the batik fabric, I had made longer so I could fold it down and create a 'chin guard'. Afterwards, I thought it needed tying because I had doubled the batting inside to make it as thick as the rest of the quilt.
I think I want to wash it now and see what happens.

I got the last of the tying done on the Pegasus/Bars quilt and removed it from the longarm.
I'm not sure how I'm going to finish the edges - binding or facing or ???
