Woke up to rain this morning. What a difference from yesterday! I left Hulett headed to Mt Rushmore. It opens early, so I was there early. I parked and walked in the rain up to the viewing platform. I was soaked through by the time I got there. I didn't bring a raincoat and my coat just got soaked.

After I got my passport stamped and bought some stickers and magnets it was off to the Crazy Horse Monument. And it's still raining - hard.

There are lots of exhibits of Native Arts and Crafts |
Native art from all regions, too. |
I didn't take the bus out to the monument in progress, I was too wet and had too many places to be today. I would love to come back and actually see it taking shape. They have big plans for this place, eventually a university among other things.
Next stop was the Jewel Cave. It's still raining. They had a great exhibit of different kinds of formations that could be found in the cave. But, I can't go down into it, I've got claustrophobia about caves.
Luckily for me the Cave was actually closed today so I didn't have to feel bad about not wanting to go down there. It was closed due to the rain! I got my passport stamped and headed out. This was the third time I got soaked through.
It was a bit of a long drive, but I made it to the Badlands Visitor Center at 5 minutes before the 4pm closing time. I got my passport stamped and then headed to the Badlands Hotel. It was not a luxury hotel, but it's cheap.
It was very windy, but not raining when I got there. |
Mine was Room 12 in the corner. |
I went 338 miles today, mostly on secondary roads, in the rain.
I'm tired.
