LAGERTHA FINISHED

 I finished Lagertha and we took some photos.

At times I struggled with the Improv Quilting.  It's somewhat of a new technique for me and I had a hard time coming up with interesting patterns and variations.  Some days I was in the flow, and others were very frustrating.

But, I am pleased with the results and glad that I got it completed.

FINISHED THE QUILTING OF LAGERTHA

 I finally finished the quilting on Lagertha, the Playcation 2022 improv quilt.

I procrastinated for quite a while on this one.  I'm doing improv quilting for the first time and I'm not very confident.  So, I procrastinated.  But here it is!  It's done and off the machine.

It's 91" by 93" big.

At the last second I added my initials to the quilting.

I also trimmed it and sewed the binding onto the front and pressed the binding to the back.  I started on the hand sewing of the binding onto the back, but didn't get very far.

PUT A SPIDER ON IT

 I'm still doing improv quilting on the Quilters Playcation 2022 quilt.

And I put a spider on it.

QUILTING LAGERTHA

 I've named the Quilters Playcation 2022 quilt Lagertha.   I started quilting on it today.  I only got about half of the first section done.

QUILT TOP DONE

 I got the last two rows of the Playcation 2022 quilt top done.

It's a quilt top, 91" x 91".  

I like it.  I really like the Standing Tall Woman in the middle.  I was thinking I should call it "The Inside of My Head".

But, I have a bunch more scraps!

FIFTH COLUMN DONE

 Finally got to finish the fifth row of the Playcation 2022 quilt today.

FOURTH COLUMN DONE

 First thing this morning was to make today's Sunrise block.  It was a beautiful sunrise with lots of colors.

Then it was on to working on the blocks for the fourth row of the Playcation 2022 quilt.  It's now over half way done!

THIRD COLUMN DONE

 I finished up the third column of the Playcation 2022 quilt.

3 down, four more to go.

TWO COLUMNS DONE

 I got the second column of 7 blocks done on the Playcation 2022 project today. That makes two, 5 more to go.

PLAYCATION 2022 BLOCKS

 I got out the blocks from the Playcation 2022 with Cheryl Arkison.  There are 50 blocks, so one of them will be on the back.

I put them up on the wall and arranged them.  The biggest ones I trimmed to 13-1/2" squares.  The rest will have to have something added to them to make them that size.  There were two blocks that are bigger than 13" so I don't lose anything important to their image.  A quilt that is 7 blocks by 7 blocks will measure 91" x 91".  The blocks don't fit on my design wall, they spill down to the floor.

Now the challenge becomes sewing them together so they don't look like they are blocks.  I need to disguise the grid. 

I got the first column on the left sewn together.  Sorry for the bad picture - you can't even see the left side column.

 I got busy and finished all of the blocks of Playcation 2022.

Here is blocks 49, 50, 51 and 52!

Now what!?   It's definitely bittersweet.  I've really enjoyed making these blocks and am sad it's over.  But, I'm excited to move on to the next step of putting them all into an interesting arrangement.

USING SCRAPS

 We are now trying to use up some of the scraps we've made while making the improv blocks of Cheryl Arkison's Playcation 2022.

MORE PLAYCATION BLOCKS

 I worked on reducing the fabric in the 23-24 Scrap Bucket making Log Cabin blocks.

Then, I made three more Playcation 2022 improv blocks.  

EDITED VOLTRON!

 The more I thought about it, the less I liked my solution from yesterday regarding the Voltron! project.  

I liked the idea of the darker section being on the bottom, but lazily turning it upside down disturbed the composition I had worked so hard on.

So, a solution would be to take the dark top section and move it to the bottom.  That involved un-sewing.  I feel like I did as much un-sewing on this project as I did sewing.  So, what's a little more?

I think the solution worked really well and I'm much happier with the way it looks now.

And, I have found a name for it.  It will be called Tractor Beam from now on.  I started thinking about backing for it and pulled some teal fabrics from my stash. But, I'm too drained to work on that today.

Then, as a palette cleanser, I made another improv block with the Playcation 2022:

 To take a break from Voltron!, I made three more improv blocks from Playcation 2022.

NUMBER FORTY

I got up into the studio and made one more improv block in the Playcation 2022 series.  Then it got too hot and I left.

This is number forty.  

 

TWO IMPROV BLOCKS

 I made the next two improv blocks with Cheryl Arkison's Playcation 2022.

This is week #37.  Mine ended up not looking anything like hers.  I got carried away with my own ideas. Sorta.

Then she was on to week #39.  I don't know what happened to week #38.

Then it got too hot up in the studio again and I had to leave.

MORE IMPROV BLOCKS

 Cheryl's next video actually contains instructions for two more improv blocks.  Apparently, she took week 34 off so she could go on vacation with her family (well deserved).

So, we made blocks #34 and #35.

NUMBER 34

 I watched Cheryl Arkison's Playcation 2022 and made week 34th's block. She called it the light from the sun.

Then I worked on hand-sewing the facing down on the back of City Noise.

MORE PLAYING

 I had skipped over week 29 of the Quilter's Playcation 2022 with Cheryl Arkison because I was all out of the dark teal, Everglade, fabric.   I got more in the mail yesterday.  I prewashed it and got busy making the improv log cabin block from her video.
