INTO SEATTLE

We took Quinten with us into Seattle this morning, in the rain, to have breakfast at Lowell's in Pike Place Market.

Afterwards, we walked around the Market a bit.  I stopped in the Starbucks for a coffee and bought a Pike Place Market mug, too, to add to our collection.

Then, still raining, we drove up on Capital Hill to the Blick Art Supplies store.  I bought some needed watercolors and some marking pens and other bits.

BREAKFAST DOWNTOWN

 Darrell and I left early and went downtown to see the new Waterfront Walkway. 

And I didn't take any pictures.

Then we went to breakfast at Biscuit Bitch on First Avenue.  We have been missing the one that was here in White Center until the Pandemic closed it and it moved out.

They make a good gluten-free biscuit, if a bit dry.  It's great with a coffee though.  They don't have inside seating.  You place your order at the door, then wait for them to call your name when your order is ready.

We took our sandwiches back to the overlook outside the Market, sat and looked out over the Sound while we enjoyed them.

It was a good morning.

NEW CHRISTMAS

 This year's Christmas was a combination of old traditions and new.

We had an early lunch of turkey sandwiches and pecan yams so we could attend a new tradition of meeting on zoom with family.

I did this horrible sketch while we were talking.

Afterwards, Darrell and I drove downtown and meandered about.  We stopped at Pike Place Market for a bit and walked around. I put up one of my stickers.

Then we ordered dinner from Shanghai Garden and drove to the International District to pick it up.  We took it home and watched the 1947 version, with Danny Kaye, of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

 

PIKE PLACE MARKET

 We ventured out into the world this morning.  Darrell needed to go to his upholsterer to pick up some samples for a client (turns out they weren't there, so we will be going  back on Monday).

But before that, we stopped at Pike Place Market for breakfast at Honest Biscuit (yum).

We first looked for a parking place on Western Avenue, but couldn't find one.  So, we went up to First Avenue and turned onto Pike Place where, lo and behold, there were places to be had!  This is probably the first time we've parked on that street in decades.

We had breakfast sandwiches and sat out on the deck overlooking Elliott Bay.  It was so beautiful!

JEFFREY DAY

Jeffrey came to spend a few days with us.  We started out with breakfast at Lowell's at the Market.  We wandered around the Market for a bit and walked around town, looking at the architecture.  I think he enjoyed that.

We left downtown and headed to The Museum of Flight, which opened at 10am.  We arrived to find quite a line to get in.  This is the last weekend of the exhibit Destination: Moon with artifacts from the Apollo 11 flight to the moon, including the actual capsule.  We all enjoyed the exhibit.

We explored the rest of the museum, too.  Darrell loved seeing some of the older airplane models.  I sketched a few while we were there.

I sketched 'The City of Auburn' and some of the planes overhead while Darrell and Jeffery went in the flight simulator.

ANOTHER MARKET BREAKFAST

Well, it was back to Lowell's for breakfast again this morning.  Skyler had oatmeal with berries (she ate the berries and drank her hot chocolate).

We didn't spend much time there, and headed back home after a quick tour of the Market.  I bought some sunflowers.  I think I'll do a real painting.

I helped Skyler make a little pillow for her dolls from the leftover fabrics for her pillowcase.  [ Edit:Sara sent us a picture when she got it home.]

MARKET DAY AND SEWING

Quentin is staying with us for a few days. 

We went to Lowell's for breakfast, then wandered around the Market.  We walked up to the Rainier Tower, looking at the architecture of it and the new tower being built next to it.  

Next stop was the Seattle Art Museum,  we had a few minutes before it opened, so I sat and sketched the Hammering Man. 

Quentin enjoyed some of the exhibits.

 He especially enjoyed the interactive activities in the Special Exhibit: Victorian Radicals.  There was a projector where you could arrange small pieces of plastic where they were arranged like a kaleidoscope and displayed on the wall above.  It was great fun.

 Darrell and Quentin went up into the Smith Tower, while I stayed in the Irish Pub below and sketched.  They joined me afterward and we had a nice Irish lunch.

We took the light rail back to Westlake and then walked back to the Market and the car.

Unfortunately, we drove down to Alaskan Way where it took us the better part of an hour to go the half mile to get to Hwy 99 and out of town.  The traffic was at a complete standstill because of the construction, or should I say deconstruction of the old viaduct.

When we got home, Quentin and I made a pillowcase from the fabrics he had picked out.
