HOLBROOK ARIZONA

 After leaving the park I headed into Holbrook where I'm spending the night.  I had noticed a quilt shop on my way through this morning.  So, I stopped at Painted Desert Quilts.  I found some old Alexander Henry prints that I had to buy.

Then I visited one of the many Rock Shops that I've seen all over this area.  They all have dinosaur statues in front, but this one had more than most.

Inside the yard there were piles of petrified rocks, from large to small.  I looked through one until I found two more rocks to take home.  I asked about where they come from and was told they come from private lands.  I had noticed a lot of homes in the area have lots of petrified tree rocks in their yards as decorations.

Holbrook is a small town.  There is a great old motel that features teepee rooms with vintage cars parked in front.  You just don't see these kind of places anymore.  They were fun.

I bought a salad (and ice cream because I earned it) for dinner and went to the hotel where I had reservations.

LUNCH IN EUREKA

 We left behind the Redwoods and stopped in Eureka for lunch.  From Crescent City to Eureka is about 85 miles, about 1 hour 45 minutes driving.

We found another great place for lunch, The Greene Lily (516 2nd St, Eureka, CA 95501).  They serve breakfast all day.  It was very crowded by the time we got there.  We waited a few minutes for someone to finish and leave before we were seated.  The food was great.

When we walked out of the restaurant we walked by a quilt/yarn store with a big MOVING SALE sign in the window.  I couldn't resist but to go  inside and see what treasure might be left.  There really wasn't much to pick from, but I did find a few $8 a yard pieces and one really cool fabric that was $22 a yard that I got a half yard of.  It's Eureka Fabrics.  You can go to their website and get 50% off what's left, for a while.

LUNCH OUT

Julie, Mom and I went out for our monthly lunch today.  

We went up to Snohomish.  We ventured through a few antique stores and had lunch and talked and talked.

While in Snohomish, I had to stop to see their quilt shop, Quilting Mayhem.  

Wow, I was really impressed - what a huge, nice place.

SANTA FE NEW MEXICO

We arrived in Albuquerque late last night where we spent the night.  After breakfast, we left there and headed about an hour north to Santa Fe.

First stop, of course, was the State Capital building, The Roundhouse.  Santa Fe, is a very artistic town, full of art,  and so is their capital building.  They have a great collection.

 

The walkway in front of the building is lined with Cherry trees.

Afterwards, we met up with our hosts.  Darrell went with them to set up his slide show.  I went to the local quilt shop, Santa Fe Quilting.

Very nice shop, I found a few things I didn't need, but had to have.

ROAD TRIP

I made a trip out to Gossypium Quilt Shop in Issaquah.  I know they have lots of Kaffe Fassett fabrics and I need some more solids for my Pi quilt.  

I was wrong - they have lots of Kaffe Fassett fabrics, but very little of the Shot solids.  I found only two darks that I could use.  I bought some fabrics to use for the back of United Square of America, too.  When I got home I ordered some shot solids from Oakshott Fabrics in the UK.  [Wishing I had bought some while at Quiltcon - I didn't even see their booth and didn't remember I missed them until I was back home!].

On the way back I couldn't help but take another picture of this overpass - someday I'll make a painting of it.  It's one of my favorites.

It was a beautiful day, the Olympics were beautiful!

Gossypium Quilt Shop will be closing probably at the end of April unless someone steps up and buys it.  It will be a great loss.  Quiltworks in  Bellevue is closing about the same time.  There won't be many quilt shops left.  

WOOD AND FABRIC

It was a gloriously beautiful day!

We headed out early to catch the Bainbridge Ferry in order to be at Edensaw in Port Townsend when it opened.  I dropped Darrell off there and me and the doggos went for a walk in Fort Worden.

It was cold and frosty, to say the least.  I heard this is the first time the temperature has dipped to 32* since February this year.  But the day was bright and clear, and the skies an intense blue.

We walked up to the bunkers.

And looked out over the water.  That's Mt Rainier on the right.

We encountered a pair of does on the way out.

They are very friendly here in Port Townsend and let us get very close.

Then we picked up Darrell and went to the Food Co-op and bought stuff for lunch.

Then we headed for Port Gamble - a little ways off our path - to visit a quilt shop called Quilted Strait.  I heard about this place recently - they said it was a great shop.  They didn't exaggerate.  

It's in an old building that used to be a stables.

I indulged a bit.

Afterwards, I told Darrell we'd have to stop in here everytime we come to Port Townsend for wood.  He agreed.

Jelly wasn't too sure about these big creatures.
