IMPROV BLOCK 48

Here is the 48th improv block by Cheryl Arkison on Quilters Playcation 2024.  I didn't get to make it last week while I was at the Joe Retreat.  So, I was catching up today.

Only one more to go!

BACK AND LOADED

I made a backing for the Long-legged Star quilt and loaded it up on the longarm.

I had found this great ombre cloud print in my stash - it's an oldie, probably from the late 90's by Nancy Crow.  I didn't make a label, but I did ink my name in one of the white stripes.

Then, I loaded it onto the longarm and started quilting it.  I got about half way.

SASHED

I originally wanted to put white sashing with small black crosses in the intersections.  I have lots of Kona black, but I was surprised that I had no White.

I looked through my white prints, but nothing seem right.  So, I went with this black and white strip that I fussy-cut to be all the same.  It turned out kind of funky.

LONG LEGGED STARS

I started making these star blocks in Joe Cunningham's Quilt Freedom Workshop last weekend.  Instead of just throwing the three blocks in the scrap bin I decided to make more and turn them into a little quilt.  So, this morning with the Monday Brave Patch group, I made some more!

OPENING NIGHT TOP

During our weekly Brave Patch Monday Open-Sew meeting on Zoom I got the last large seams on my Opening Night quilt sewn.  It is big!  90" by 90".  It's always a pain to sew on something that big, but I got it done.  It's too big for my design wall.  Here's a picture of it as it flows down onto the floor.

Now to make the label and backing.

INTO ROWS ALREADY

I've been working a bit on  the Opening Night Tula Pink quilt blocks.  I finished them off today while chatting on Brave Patch Monday Sew-In.  I started sewing them into rows.  I still have to cut the big setting triangles for the outside - I don't know how I'm going to do that, they're over 29" square to begin with.  It's so difficult to be accurate at that size.

LITTLE BLUE STAR

I thought I'd work on something simple while attending this week's Brave Patch meeting.  I pulled out the Opening Night stuff and finished off another little star.  I think I've only got three more to do.

DECISIONS, DECISIONS

I have to decide on which colors I want to use on these little improv blocks.   All of the colors will stay the same, except for the right and left side points. I'm happy with rest, but I go back and forth about these.

The green is Peapod (brighter)

Green is Olive (duller, but the same as fabric in middle of block)

This is Leather - not used in blocks at all.
