THE FONS

It was a great pleasure and privilege to listen to Marianne Fons and her daughter Mary Fons have a sit down discussion about the past 40 years of quilting.

Very special.

VFW

The featured speaker at Quiltcon 2020 was Victoria Findlay Wolfe.

I was there. It was a great!

AUSTIN CAPITAL BUILDING

We left Quiltcon and went to visit the capital building here in Austin.

I don't know why they had a phallic symbol here.

The Senate Chamber

The Representatives Chamber

QUILTCON 2020

Opening day of Quiltcon 2020 in Austin, Texas.

The line was long.  Darrell went with me and we went through the whole show.  Good husband.

At the end of the line.

Unfortunately, we were enjoying the show so much, I didn't take any pictures.  Well, we took one...

LBJ RANCH

We said good-bye to San Antonio and headed north to the LBJ Ranch, a National Park.

The 'Texas White House', the main residence, was closed for repairs unfortunately.  We were only allowed to take the long drive around the ranch, seeing buffalo and a herd of cattle and the landing strip.

We stopped at the hangar, where a small Presidential jet is parked and the National Park Rangers have their office and informational presentations.  We bought a magnet and got my National Park Passport stamped and were on our way.

MISSION SAN JOSE

There are several missions in San Antonio.  We went to the main one, San Jose.  It was a spectacular example.

THE ALAMO

We left yesterday afternoon for San Antonio.  We arrived late, got our car, some dinner and looked for a hotel.

This morning we headed out for some quick sightseeing.

First stop - the Alamo.  We got there just as they opened and since it was cold and a weekday, there were very few other tourists there, it was nice.

While Darrell wandered about taking pictures, I sat and sketched.  There were paid employees and volunteers who dressed in the clothes and outfitted themselves with real and replicated accouterments. They were really into it and full of information.  I sketched them, then moved out to the front and sketched in the building.

STARTING THE FLOWERS

Here is the beginning of my Valentine Flowers painting.

FRIDAY ACRYLIC

Now for something completely different...

First we did an underpainting - making marks.

Then we negative painted something that was supposed to look like the underside of a palm tree.

DOG SKETCH

A sketch from a photo on Sktchy.  Cool dog.

TUESDAY WATERCOLOR

VALENTINE'S CARDS

I made a Valentine's Day card for my Mom, from her dog, Reba.

Reba, in  colored pencils.

And I also made one for my sister Sue, from her cat Lily.

Lily in watercolors.

I had to mail them today so they'd get there in time.  Mom's need to be there on Thursday, because she doesn't pick up her mail until the next day.
