FINISHED BIRDS IN THE AIR

I made the binding and sewed it onto the Birds in the Air quilt today.

So, it's officially done.  It is my tenth finish for the year.

This quilt top was made in 1994.  Included are blocks made by some of my friends in the Issaquah Quilt Guild on which most signed their names and the date.

HOURGLASS TOP FINISHED

It's done.  I finally finished the Improv Hourglass top.

It's about 51" by 72".

There's lots of scraps, I think I'll sew them together and incorporate them into the backing.

TREE TOPS QUILT TOP FINISHED

I made the last bit for the bottom of the Tree Tops quilt and added it on.

It's basically finished and ready to be turned into a quilt.

CONTEMPLATING THAT LAST ROW

I started making that last row on the Tree Tops.  I thought it might be good with more yellow.

Once I got it on there I didn't like it.

Luckily, I hadn't sewed it onto the rest of the quilt, it's just pinned there.

So, I took that down and tried it in different colors:

Then I wasn't sure about these dark colors.

ONLY ONE ROW TO GO

I've been working on the Tree Tops project off and on lately.  I'm down to just one big row left to sew together.  Then it will be finished.

TREE TOPS MORE ROWS

I've squared up the Tree Tops and started sewing everything together.

MORE TRIANGLES AND ANGLEs

I've been working on my Tree Tops and Angles quilt the last few days.  At times it's great fun and others its frustrating.  I seem to be working with smaller and smaller pieces as I go along.  That wasn't really the plan!  But, you're going to make scraps when doing improv.

GETTING BOLDER

I decided to go ahead and sew together that bold yellow section.  At this point I'm liking it and it will stay.

I got to work on the next row, too.  Bigger pieces.

Then it's back to re-organizing those scraps.  There is no end to the scraps - the more I sew them together the more I make.

ADDING YELLOW?

I worked some more on the Tree Tops quilt top.  At the end of the day I added a bigger section of that yellow.  I'll leave there for now and think about it.

MORE TREE TOPS

More fun making Tree Tops and Angles, improv style.  I've been sewing together the smaller bits of the 'background' to make larger chunks to work with.  That takes up a lot of time.  But it is relaxing and enjoyable.  I like using up scraps.

And, its maybe a third of the size I want it to be.  I'm going to go about it differently with the next area.  The way I did it this time is painfully more difficult than I think it needs to be.  We'll see.

IMPROV SCRAP PLAY

A bunch of us joined Sherri Lynn Wood on BravePatch for an Improv Scrap Play workshop today.  We made Tree Tops and Angles.

I thought it might be a good plan to use the scraps from the recent finish, Playcation 2024.  I started out with those, but soon realized that the project needed more variety.  So, I got out the Blue Scrap Bucket and the Yellow/Gold bucket and continued on.

What I had done by the end of workshop.

And at the end of the day.

TUESDAY BLOCK 45

Cheryl was back today to lead us in making the 45th block of her Quilters Playcation 2024.

It's a ladder - and mine looks like a ladder.

And, I got another month of blocks made for the SeaMQGBOM2024.

BLOCK 36

Here's my interpretation of Cheryl Arkison's Quilters Playcation 2024 improv block.  And, once again I didn't follow directions too closely.

SECOND DAY AT MISA

Today we worked on pointy pieces.

Here’s how my work wall looked at the end of the day.

VOLTRON! IS A TOP

I completed the last big triangles in the bottom corners.  And had everything sewn into big chunks that were ready to sew all together.

It is now a top.  Once I got it done, I felt the top was the darkest part, the heaviest part, making the composition seem top-heavy.  So, I flipped it upside down.  It looks better.  But, I may change something, like taking the dark top off and sewing it onto the part that used to be the bottom.

Well, I'm all done and here is the pile of scraps and leftovers.  omg, it never ends.

STILL WORKING ON VOLTRON!

I'm still spending the greatest part of my days working on my Voltron! project.

It's still a puzzle.  I'm still editing as I go.  I've had to make more strip sets, too.

I've sewed some of the bigger pieces together and moved it up on the design wall, so that I can work on the bottom to make it a bit longer.

But, it's coming along.

TINY POINT

I was enarmored with this tiny little pink triangle today as I worked on Voltron!

DAY TWO OF VOLTRON

 More strip sets to make.

Charan and Nikki

Some started cutting theirs into triangles and putting them up.

I kept making strip sets into the afternoon.

Then I thought I better start cutting and designing.

We stopped a little early and all drove out to the studio of Marcia Derse.  She graciously invited us to visit and shop her fabrics.  She gave us a tour and showed us how her fabric designing process works.

GANYMEDE BLOCKS

I've been making more triangle pie parts for the Small World I'm calling Ganymede.

I put some up on the wall to see how they looked.  And, I decided they needed more neutrals.  So, I cut and added several shades of grey triangles, some tan triangles and another orange just for fun.  I probably have enough triangles cut to make a couple of quilts.
