I made the rest of the pieces for the Dalek block I started yesterday. It's just a half block. The ones below this need to be thought out and redrawn.
One more tricky part to do.
Scenes from the Road of Life
I made the rest of the pieces for the Dalek block I started yesterday. It's just a half block. The ones below this need to be thought out and redrawn.
I got this block finished today and put it up on the wall with the rest.
The red fabrics I have don't exactly match the red I've already used. But, there was one Kona red that was close enough. I wish I had another red print. But, I made some arcs with the Kona Chinese Red.
I got the other two arcs of the 14" cogs made and started on the black 7" arcs for the little quilt I'm working on. I got all 4 of them made while visiting with the Brave Patch Friday group. These are not sewn together yet.
I enjoyed making the Cogs so much I decided to use the Mickey Mouse fabric I just purchased to make a little quilt made up of the Cogs. I'm challenging myself to make all three sizes. I started with the 14" arcs. And the red fabric I used needed to be fussy-cut to get the pattern all oriented the same way in each cog.
I got a good start:
I got out to the studio early, 7am, to attend a Jenny Haynes Cogs Workshop through the Sew Squad.
Jenny is so good about sharing all her tips and tricks. This workshop was about Freezer Paper Piecing.
So, I did get up and go out to the studio by 5am. I wanted to get the spikey parts of each petal done before our meet up with Irene Roderick to show our progress on our projects.
I just barely made it. But I did and I even had time for breakfast before our 8am meeting.
I stuck the fabrics I dyed up around it, although I didn't have any idea about how to use them. I was so pleased with the feedback I received. They were some really good ideas, and I think I've got a direction I want to go.
I finished off yesterday's and did another section today, while visiting with my Brave Patch Monday group. Lovely ladies, who put up with me mostly ignoring them while I sewed like a mad woman.
This is Petal E. It's at the top of the quilt.
This one took all day, too.
My neck hurts, and I'm tired of sitting.
It took all day, but here is the end part of Petal B of the Amity Baroque big flower.
I'm done dyeing fabrics, so it's back to cutting them up and sewing them back together. The sewing machine was fixed yesterday and now I get to try it out.
I really enjoy fitting all of these intricate pieces together. It's such a great feeling when they all fit and look great and it lays flat.
And, we took the steel tube bed frame to a business that will sand blast and put a new finish on it. It is going to be so cool.
I got the pattern traced onto freezer paper, and made some of the hash marks for aligning the pieces when sewing.
I cut out the 'petals' and started making them. It feels like starting over because I've already made these petals. Hopefully, this time it will go a little quicker and be better.
I didn't think about reversing the pattern when I drew it out on the giant freezer paper, so now I'm having to add the registration marks on the front (in the seam allowance). This is the opposite of how I've done it in the past. Live and learn.
I've settled on the colors and started cutting and sewing.

Half way. |
I sewed together half of the quarter section of the Rhythm in Blues quilt.
Just one fourth of the quarter left to do then I can sew the quarters together.
This is the backside - seams pressed open.
I sewed on my Rhythm in Blues quilt quarters while visiting with the Brave Patch Monday Makers.
I got a lot done. It's getting bigger - almost there!
I started in on the two pieces that make up the other half of the Rhythm in Blues quilt today while visiting with the Brave Patch folks.
I got a little section done (for both quarters).
I spent a pleasant afternoon with the Monday Brave Patchers. I sewed on my Rhythm in Blues quilt while we chatted about the world's woes.
I almost got the first quarter done. There is just one more seam to sew.
