FACING ON TRACTOR BEAM

My poor Tractor Beam quilt has been languishing for almost a year.  I got it quilted, then folded it up and it's been waiting to be finished.  I got it out and trimmed it and cut some facing from the leftover backing and sewed it on yesterday.  I took it into the house and handsewed it down onto the backing yesterday evening, but didn't finish.

I continued working on it in between setting up the longarm to quilt on the Snake quilt today.  It needs to be done before Friday morning because I'm taking it to Puyallup to be in the Fair - along with a few other quilts.

I got it all sewn down by 4pm then took the lint brush to it and got the dog hair and stray threads off of it.  I think it is ready!

And, I got the second row of the Snake quilt quilted.  A good day.

FACED

I sewed the facing onto Amity Baroque using some of the excess backing that was trimmed off after quilting.  I did have to add some Kona Pecan on the bottom edge.

This sateen backing was probably not a good idea.  It's wonderfully soft, but there have been several 'pulled threads' which don't look very good.

I'm now in the process of hand sewing the facing onto the back of the quilt, today while listening to the Brave Patch group discussing our current book, Threads of Life by Clare Hunter.

TRIMMED

I trimmed the excess from the Rhythm in Blues quilt and put it up on the design wall to decide on how to finish it - binding, facing or what?

I decided it looked just fine without a border or more color on the outside, so I'm going with facing.

I cut up the excess backing into 2-1/2" strips, pressed them in half and pinned to the front, then I  sewed them down and pressed to the the back.  Now, I just need to hand sew it all down on the back.

It was a beautiful day, so Darrell and I went to Alki and picked up lunch to go from Cactus.  We took it to the beach where we sat at a picnic table and watched the world go by.  It was wonderful.

We sat in the sunshine and watched the darkening clouds over Seattle.

FINISHED FACING

Instead of a binding I'm 'facing' the Spring Equinox quilt.  It's taken about four nights while watching TV sewing it down on the back by hand.  I finished it up today.

Spent the afternoon sewing facing on Unexpected Visitor.
