ART DAY

I joined with Andrea Chebeleu's Watch. Learn.Play group yesterday and today to make art.

Here's what I did Under the Influence of Ruby Silvious.  She uses a lot of used teabags, and other discardable things in her art and paints tiny little objects or scenes on them.  She's amazing.

BIG PATTERN

With the help of my husband, I sent a file of my Big Flower drawing to be printed out onto paper the actual size I want the quilt to be.

I picked it up from the printer today.  Two big pieces that I needed to splice together.

Here it is, in the studio, taped together.  Now to trace it onto freezer paper.

PATTERN MAKING

Using the giant roll of freezer paper, 48" wide, I added more to make the 62" width.  I found a heat proof tape (golden) that make this process a lot easier.

This quilt will be 63" wide by 84" length.

I drew the pattern on the freezer paper, using a trammel to draw the circle's arcs.

It worked great (other than having to tape it to the floor because I don't have a table big enough).  Of course, the dogs wanted to help and I had to keep chasing them off.

HOMEWORK

We had homework from Sarah Nishiura's Workshop - we were to take a simple block, change something about it and arrange it in different ways.

I started with a Churn Dash block.  I changed the two-patch to a four-patch.

I elongated the block and alternated it with it's mirror image:

I colored some of the squares in a rainbow circle.  I found it to be too confusing though.

I re-colored it with the colors being in a mirror image rotation.  This is better, but...

It was very time-consuming to make all of these drawings.  But I found it meditative and it gave me time to think about different options along the way.

I tried to do the same thing in Prequilt, but it wasn't possible.  I didn't see a way to make different sized rows.

ABSTRACT FLOWER DRAWING

I worked on drawing the Abstract Flower for my Design Class.  This is one fourth of the flower design.

I have no idea how I'll make this in fabrics.

Since I'm stymied, I worked on a mindless project - sewing the blocks together on Plaidish, which is taking up my design wall.  I got two rows sewn together.

(I have no idea what happened to that missing block either.  I've looked everywhere.  It was up there a few days ago.)

TIME TO THINK ABOUT YOT HORSE

It's time to start thinking about an image for my Year of the Horse print for the annual Chinese New Year exchange with Barenforum.  I drew up a couple of different ideas, but finally settled on this guy, who I'm calling Rupert.

I think he's very interesting.
