MOBILE

I put acrylic paints inbetween two sheets of Dura-lar (plastic-like).

Then I cut out raindrop shapes.

Here's our new mobile under the gazebo on the back deck.

ROCK PAINTING

Hailey and I started painting rocks last week.  I've continued and have made more.  I've got them all sealed with several coats of clear.  They are ready to go out into the world.

GETTING READY

We all went on a nice walk this morning at Lincoln Park.  Darrell usually takes interesting pictures and posts them in Facebook.  Go look.

But, I spent a little time working on my Acrylics homework.

Then I made a little watercolor...

Then,  I've been getting ready for the workshop I'm going to next week.

FRIDAY ACRYLIC CLASS

This was the first of five classes I signed up for at Daniel Smith Art Supplies to learn about color and acrylics.  We spent this first class trying to figure out which colors sang to us so we could make our own personal color wheel.

It was fun.

TEXTURE STARTS

I'm not thrilled about this assignment.  But...

I've made a start.  I started with one of my many 10" square hardboards (that I have waiting in a stack).
I cut dried and flattend Madrona bark into squares and made a checkerboard background.

Of course, it's a sunflower.

DRESS BLOCK

In preparation for the new longarm, I've been rearranging the studio - throwing things out, basically.

I thought I should hang some of my paintings to get them out of the way.

My flower paintings are going into the stairwell.

I noticed some of them needed to be sealed so I did that today, too.

Looks like a mess, but it's an organized mess.

I worked a while on this Splendid Sampler block.  It's paper-pieced.  This is just 2/3rds of it:

SNITZEL CHANGE

In my last post I showed how the 'Lines' Snitzel looked after I had attached the pieces to the background using acrylic medium with GAC 900 added.  It wasn't dry yet so the colors looked completely different.  I wasn't sure it would dry looking like that, but fortunately it didn't.  When the acrylic had dried and I ironed it to set it, the colors were very close to the original look.

Here's the first photo I took of it:

And here is the photo I took after I added more lines around the eye on the left and adhered the pieces to the background.  They are more or less permanently affixed now:
The colors are very similar.  I think the only difference is in the lighting or exposure of the different photos.

I really think adding the additional lines to the left eye helps it alot.  I'm not sure where I'm going with it next.  I'm still letting it simmer.
