MODERN FANS TOP

I got the top of the Modern Fans quilt done today.   I've started in on the backing.  All while getting ready for my upcoming trip.

First things first, our morning walk.

I also put the two pieces together to finish this Splendid Sampler 2 block.

MORE APPLIQUE

It's another Splendid Sampler 2 applique block this week.

I was busy doing other things, but I did get the parts and pieces prepared for this block.

It rained last night.  Our morning walk was clear and dry, but the colors in the park were spectacular.

SPLENDID FRIDAY

Julie and Jeff took us to Port Townsend, on Thursday, to look at  a promising property with a 3-bedroom home and a 3500 square foot shop on two acres [sounds perfect, right?].  It turned out to be too much of a project - so much work to be done.

We were back home by 2:30 with a lot to think about.

After a lot of discussion and thought, we decided we really appreciated our little home here in West Seattle [our little oasis].  We decided to stop looking for an alternative.

Today was a busy one, but I managed to get this stunning paper-pieced block  from the Splendid Sampler 2, done.  I love it!

Yesterday morning I had finished the applique and embroidery on last week's SS2 block and I got it ironed today, too.

BLOCKS FOR THE WEEK

I got a little behind on the blocks for this week.  I got them caught up today.  I didn't feel like doing much of anything.  I did not get enough sleep, having been woken up too early by someone making noises in the kitchen.  I hate when that happens.

Here are this week's Moda Block Heads 2 and Splendid Sampler 2 blocks.

And then I worked on the next Alphabet Letter:

MORE ON THE JOURNEY

This new project I've jumped into is called "Journey to Fall Paducah".  Its a free pattern from AQS.

I went to the fabric store and bought 6 yards of Kona black.  I'll use the colors that I already have.

I made the second block today.

Then I had problems with those darn paper pieced corners again.  I'm ready to blame it on the instructions and the size they say to cut the pieces.  They were too short.  I made some notes and will cut them bigger next time.

BUT, these blocks finish at 15" and there are 36 of them, making the quilt 103" by 103".  Too big to fit on my longarm.  Too big for anything.

So, now I'm thinking about modifying the block borders to make the whole quilt smaller.  So, maybe I won't need those darn corner blocks.

I had a little time to whip out the next Splendid Sampler 2 block.  Well, it's not finished, but it's ready to be hand appliqued.

SS2 PAPER PIECED BLOCK

This week's Splendid Sampler 2 block is a paper-pieced tree.

I love paper piecing.

This one is great.

It's called Flowering Tree, but I made it in autumn colors.  I love autumn.

WEEKLY BLOCKS

I totally spaced out on the Block Heads block yesterday.  So I downloaded the pattern for it and Splendid Sampler 2 today and made them both.

It was a drizzly morning, finally.  But it was very refreshing.

REMODEL

Here's the latest Splendid Sampler 2 block.  I really like this one's name.

It's 'Point Taken'.

Then I went to work on moving my sewing area down to make room for my new bookshelf.  I forgot to take a 'before' picture.  This first one is after I started moving things.

Here's how it looked when I quit for the day because it was too hot upstairs.  The bookshelf is in place.  I'm going to give it a few more days for the paint to cure before I put the fabric into it.

I'm getting rid of those wall thread holders - they allowed too much dust to settle on the thread.  I'm buying some storage containers.  We'll see how that works out.

FINISHED THE CIRCLES

I got the applique and embroidery done on this week's Splendid Sampler 2 block.

I almost got the circles finished.  I still need to applique the circles in the middle.  Actually, I need to make the circles then applique them down.

I did more work than the pattern called for.  I cut the backs of the wedges out and then after the wedge circle was sewn to the background I cut the background fabric out from the back of it.

Imagine them with all with red circles in the middle - the blocks, not the dogs.

P.S. Today was the start of the 100Days100Blocks2018 Challenge.  I posted mine on Instagram.

APPLIQUE PREP

This week's Splendid Sampler 2 block is applique block of a cute little elephant.

I got it prepped today.

As you can probably see, I didn't notice that I should have reversed it - and didn't.  Oh, well.

I worked on some more of the wedges...

And it as a rare day that the dogs shared a bed.  Hmmm.

Jax and Jelly sitting in a tree....

LATE BUT DONE

Here is last week's Splendid Sampler 2 block.  I had cut out all of the pieces and pieced the backing and prepped the other parts.  I finally got the applique done.

I got this week's block cut out, but there is a lot of hand work with it, too, including embroidery.  So it may be a while before I finish it.  But definitely before next week's block is out.

FRIDAY LITE

I took Bluebird off the machine, here's the back showing the label:

I got to work on the latest Splendid Sampler 2.  I still need to applique the circles down, so I can't say it's finished yet.

Then I made a few more from Splendid Sampler 1:

Happy Birthday Dad! [who would have been 91 today]

SPLENDID SAMPLER 2 STARTS

I'm doing it again - and I haven't even finished the first one.

Here we go...

This one is named "Quilt Market".  [They aren't numbering them this time]

It's a conglomeration of strips

Lining up a 6-1/2" ruler

The excess is cut off.

The official finished photo.
I felt so guilty about not having worked on the first SS, that I did the next block.  I think it's number 53.
