PETAL TWO

I made another petal for the Amity Baroque quilt (I named it).  That makes two, three to go.

I also got a lot of the little parts needed done, too, while enjoying the company of my Brave Patch friends.

I tortured Jelly today, too.  That was fun.

STARTING OVER

I got the pattern traced onto freezer paper, and made some of the hash marks for aligning the pieces when sewing.

I cut out the 'petals' and started making them.  It feels like starting over because I've already made these petals.  Hopefully, this time it will go a little quicker and be better.

I'm doing one of the parts by paper-piecing again, too.

LITTLE TINY PIECES

Seems to have been a while since I pieced such tiny pieces.  It's not my favorite thing, but it's not bad.

These will be the parts for the next row on the petals.

Its the time of the year when our big tree in the front yard starts dropping a million and half catkins - and pollen.  Green pollen everywhere.

MORE PRECISE PIECING

This project is supposed to be about improv, but I've started out with a plan and I want to make it just so.  The original drawing was improv, does that count?

In order to get the look I wanted, I decided paper-piecing was required.

CHRISTMAS RUNNER

I saw a picture of this design as a pillow - one block - and thought that would make a really nice Christmas tablerunner for our front entry.  I had to draft the design and print the little 2-1/4" squares onto foundation papers.

It takes 64 squares for each block - and it took me a couple of days to get this far with one block, 18" x 18".  I need three to make a tablerunner.  I stopped, I have other things I should be doing instead.  Oh, well.

I discovered, after I had made all of these little blocks, that the printer had copied some of the pages at different sizes.  I don't understand that, at all.

NEXT FLOWER BLOCK

I came to the conclusion I had to have one more Flower block.

I started in on it today, paper-pieced.

TRINKET

I finished up the panto on my City Sampler quilt, but I didn't have time to take it off the machine.

And while Eduard was working on that, I was working on my latest new project - Trinkets.  I had changed the blocks from 4 inch to 6 inch in Electric Quilt and printed out all of the foundation papers I would need.  This quilt will be bigger than the original pattern by Alison Glass.

I had gotten caught up and bought the quilt kit.  It came with about 29 fat quarters in all those delicious colors in the Kaleidoscope collection, plus the dark grey (Raven) for the background and a funky black and white striped knubbly fabric (which I don't like for a quilt).  When I saw that there was plenty enough fabric there for a bigger quilt, I immediately sent away for more of the Raven fabric which I would need more of, and a grey and white stripe to use instead of the knubbly one.  Here we go - just what I needed, another project.  But, I love it!

SPLENDID FRIDAY

Julie and Jeff took us to Port Townsend, on Thursday, to look at  a promising property with a 3-bedroom home and a 3500 square foot shop on two acres [sounds perfect, right?].  It turned out to be too much of a project - so much work to be done.

We were back home by 2:30 with a lot to think about.

After a lot of discussion and thought, we decided we really appreciated our little home here in West Seattle [our little oasis].  We decided to stop looking for an alternative.

Today was a busy one, but I managed to get this stunning paper-pieced block  from the Splendid Sampler 2, done.  I love it!

Yesterday morning I had finished the applique and embroidery on last week's SS2 block and I got it ironed today, too.

SS2 PAPER PIECED BLOCK

This week's Splendid Sampler 2 block is a paper-pieced tree.

I love paper piecing.

This one is great.

It's called Flowering Tree, but I made it in autumn colors.  I love autumn.

MASKED

I'm still making Candy Cats.  I think I'm up to a dozen.

TWO FOR TUESDAY

After tearing the countertops off in the kitchen (or rather, I watched Darrell do it), I went up to the studio and made two more Splendid Sampler blocks.

Both paper pieced, both all paisleys.

BLOCK 39

Block 39 of the Splendid Sampler is paper pieced, hella paper pieced.  I spent the better part of my afternoon working on this block, "Balls in the Air" designed by Aylin Ozturk.
It has the tiniest little pieces.  I had a hard time figuring out which line to sew on.  But, I did it and I didn't make any mistakes and I didn't have to pick any of it out!

I spent part of the day organize and rearranging in my studio.
Out with the old, in with the new!

ONE MORE LITTLE BLOCK

After the press went away, I made a block that needs some embroidery, which I will work on this next week - so I'm not posting a picture of it, yet.

Then I made a paper-pieced block:

DRESS BLOCK

In preparation for the new longarm, I've been rearranging the studio - throwing things out, basically.

I thought I should hang some of my paintings to get them out of the way.

My flower paintings are going into the stairwell.

I noticed some of them needed to be sealed so I did that today, too.

Looks like a mess, but it's an organized mess.

I worked a while on this Splendid Sampler block.  It's paper-pieced.  This is just 2/3rds of it:

SPLENDID #15

"Family Affair" by Janice Ryan:

I've been working on this one a little bit at a time for a few days now.  Tonight I finally finished it.

It is paper-pieced.  Jax enjoyed when I took the paper off the back and tossed them to him.  I think he even ate some of them.  Goofy dog.

QUILT TOP TOGETHER

With the papers gone, it went together very quickly.

I bought some fabric for the backing already.  Now I don't think I like it with the top.  Does that give me permission to go fabric shopping?

I made the binding since I ran out of things to do.  So I better get a back and get it quilted before I misplace the binding.

PAPER-PIECING IS MESSY

I got the last part of the block finished and sewed to it's mate.  I sewed one whole block together.

I realized it would be easier if the paper was gone.  So, I stopped and removed all of the paper from the back of the blocks.

What a mess.  I love being able to make a big mess in my studio and walking away....

But...I'll have to clean it up eventually.

ANOTHER BLOCK DONE

I sewed them together and then called it a day.

PAPERPIECING

I made a little progress today.

I cut out all of the pieces that I will need (I was worried I wasn't going to have enough gray).  I still have enough of the gray left to make the binding from - so that worked out good.

And I made the extra parts to replace the two blocks that got damaged and made them.  So, I'm all caught up.

I also changed my mind about the order of the colors.

This is how it was originally planned.

This is what I changed it to.

HALF DONE

I worked on another of the paper-pieced parts of this block.

I realized this means I'm half way done with the block parts...

That's encouraging.
