I HAVE PASTELS

We were talking about pastels the other day.  It made me curious about how much I had.  I found this box that I used regularly (oh my, it is heavy - built very sturdy).

I also have boxes (BOXES!) of brand new pastels that I have never opened.  And lots of pastel stix and pencils.

MOVING THE THREADS

I watched a video while sewing this morning and decided to move my threads to above the Kona bookcase, like I'd seen in the video.  I've had them on a shelf next to my sewing machine and they were hard to get in and out of there.  It makes more sense to have them be in a more accessible spot and put some stuff I don't use as often in the their less-accessible place.

41/100

I got a few little triangular blocks made first thing this morning, after our early walk in the park.

Then I took all of the squares I've cut up from the bigger scraps in the scrap bucket and put them into the new drawers with the dividers.  I tried stacking them by color - not as easy as it sounds.

Finally, after everything dried out a bit from the deluge of rain last night, we got to work on the deck.  We managed to get three more boards down.  At one point, the rain started again.  We moved all of the tools inside, and about the time we got that done, the rain stopped.  So, we brought it all back out and carried on.

We're getting close to that half way mark.

40/100

Rain, rain, rain.  I did manage to get a walk in before the deluge started, but after that the rain came down pretty hard.  We didn't work on the deck at all - well, Darrell did connect some more long boards with his 'S' joint, but we didn't get any work done outside.

I spent the morning working in the studio.  I made a back for the green churn dash quilt.  I had to name it so I could make a label.  It is now called "Verdant".  Hello.

I made some time to work on my #100dayproject2020, getting 5 more blocks done.

Darrell cut some strips for me to glue into my new drawer cabinet.  This will be were I store the squares and pieces from the scrap bucket.

38/100

The day started out pouring down rain.  So, instead of working on the deck we did other things.

Darrell brought in a lot of boards and joined some together to make them long enough to span the deck.   He used a fancy joint.

I put together the new drawer cabinet I bought.

With that done, I got busy making six triangle scrap blocks.

ORGANIZING

I didn't feel like sewing - I need to start a new project - and that sounded too difficult today.

I organized a couple of fabric drawers instead.

I cut the comic boards down and then fold and wrap the fabric.

I even ejected a few pieces from my stash (fabrics I just can't see me ever using).

STUDIO FABRIC STORAGE

The above picture is the finished project.  Below are the process pictures.   I did some research about systems for storing my fabric stash.  I had criteria - I wanted to be able to see the fabric and get to it easily; I wanted the bins deep as possible because of the layout of the room's sloping ceiling.  That end isn't really usable space without stooping down.  I found this wire basket system through Organizeit.com.  It was expensive, but simple to install - a choice of time or money.  Being short of time, or should I say, Darrell being short of time, I decided to go for it.
Darrell built the simple four section box, and installed the 'ladders' that the baskets slide on.  We found the other cabinets for free on Craigslist and he built toe-kicks for them, installed them and put new countertops of MDF edged with mahogany.
I spent several days painting the inside of the old cabinets white and painting the outsides, and putting shellac on the top of the counters.

At the last minute, I decided it might be fun to add some color - that short wall behind the new cabinets never really got painted properly.  I stopped at Rodda on the way home one day and picked up some dark yellow (gold) paint - it's called 'Hacienda Clay'.  I was surprised at how 'warm' it ended up being up against the already warm amber shellac.  Oh, well.
Now I just have to lug all my fabric up there, re-fold it, and organize it.

No problem.
