BIGGER STILL

I worked all morning on making this 21" to add to the Fibonacci Swirl in progress:

Then I worked on my Equinox quilt (some of the fabrics finally arrived, but still waiting on more).  Waiting on that Jade Green fabric.

REALLY SMALL

I paper pieced the smallest pieces for the Equinox, Fibonacci Spiral.  I drew it out on freezer paper, cut the fabrics and sewed them on.

And, no, it was not that simple.  There was some cussing and unsewing and re-doing involved.  But, it turned out really nice so I then made the two inch block in the same manner.

Here's a shot of the two inch - I couldn't do either without a lot of pins.

Now I'm excited to get onto the rest of them.

NUMBER TWO AND DONE

Darrell got his second vaccine on Tuesday, I got mine today.

In a couple of weeks we should be a lot safer from this virus.  Hopefully.

SAVE THE STONE COTTAGE

We went down to Alki this morning.  Darrell was having a slow day - he's not feeling up to par because of his second vaccine yesterday.  The plan was for me to sketch while he wandered about with his camera.

The wind was really blowing and it was too cold!  He came back to the pickup after a few minutes while I sat in it and sketched.

This is the Stone Cottage.  It will be moved soon and I thought I should go and get a sketch of it before it does.  Follow the link above and read about it and donate to save it.  We did.

Afterwards, we called in an order and picked up a wonderful lunch from Cactus restaurant on Alki.  We drove down to Beach Drive and sat and looked out at the stormy waves and ate it, while watching the birds play in the wind.   So good!

LET'S GET SMALL

I am inspired to make a quilt with the Fibonacci Spiral.

Using Jenny Haynes method of making skinny inset strips should make that possible.  The challenge will be making drunkard's path blocks that are 1" square - two of them.  The rest of the blocks will get progressively bigger and easier.

I cut some parts - from linen no less - and tried making several sizes.  But not the 1" yet.

The 2" gave me a few problems, but I think I can do it.

A 3" and a 2" finished.

I think I'm going to try the 1"ers on a paper foundation method.

NEW FLOOR IN SHOP

Darrell splurged and got the floor in part of the shop, his bench room, refinished.

They ground the old chipped red paint off and smoothed it out.

Then applied a grey adhesive and spread grey chips over that and when it dried, vacuumed up the excess.

They finished the process by applying clear sealer over the whole thing.

Darrell's has to stay out of the shop today and tomorrow so it can cure.

MORE BUT NOT ALL

I made what I could from the fabrics I have, but I ran out and had to stop working on the Equinox quilt.  I'm awaiting a couple of fabric shipments.

TOP ROW

Here's the first row of my new project, Equinox.  I've run out of that Jade Green fabric.  I've ordered more, it's on its way - I hope.

It's not sewn together yet.  I'll be making it in columns, then sewing them all together because the rows won't line up all the way across.

Then I had a zoom meeting - the first with my new Ipad.  The microphone didn't work and no one could hear me.  I tried everything to no avail.

MY PROJECT

I worked on the quilting on Suspended a bit this morning, but became frustrated and quit.  I just don't see a plan.  I'm not sure how I want to quilt it.

Instead, I began drawing a new design using Jenny Haynes technique for making skinny strips on drunkard's path blocks.  I riffed off her new pattern, Kenny and Dolly quilt,  and created something similar but different.

I started making a few blocks.  There was some unsewing and cussing involved.  I finally broke down and re-read her instructions.  That helped.  I think I'm going to need to make these skinny strips skinnier - so more unsewing (or remaking) will be involved.  I need to go order more of these fabrics.

Since it was started today, on the Spring Equinox, I'm naming it Equinox.

It's also International Quilting Day.  I sometimes wish I had a place to display a quilt to share with the world.

WILDFLOWER BLOCK 3

I made the third set of blocks for the Wildflower BOM.  These will be set at the center of the quilt.

NATURE JOURNALING

I attended a zoom workshop about Nature Journaling this morning.  It was put on by a Naturalist from the San Francisco Bay area.  They do these monthly, but I just discovered them.  Maybe I'll do more of them, it was fun.

LAST BLOCK FOR ECLIPSE

Originally called Solstice, now called Eclipse, I finally made the last of the pieced triangle 'blocks' that make up the design for this quilt.  When I finished i put them up on the wall.  They are to be the center.

Then I just kept adding the other blocks to see how it looked.

Now to decide if I'm going to change anything, or leave it as is.  And decide on the background color.

NEBULA 4 BLOCKS

I don't know why, but there were two blocks this month.

I made the ones from the pattern and then drafted and made the smaller version from the leftovers.

BACKING FOR SHATTERED

I made the label with the triangles yesterday and forgot to photograph it.

Here's the backing all sewn together and ready to go.

When I saw that fabric with the grey, black and white rhinos with the bright yellow background I knew it would be perfect for the back of this quilt.  This year's Pantone Color of the Year is actually two colors--

Illuminating (bright yellow) and Ultimate Grey:

So, now it looks like I planned this quilt for the Colors of the Year!

MOM'S DONE

I made the label for Shattered this morning, then forgot to take a picture.

After lunch I picked up Mom and drove her to Valley General Hospital where she got her second shot of the Covid-19 vaccine.  She's good to go!

ALL TOGETHER

While watching Joe's Workshop from yesterday in the morning and joining in with the Seattle MQG's Sunday Sew-In, I managed to get the blocks for Shattered all sewn together.

It's a quilt top.

I even started planning the backing.

Happy Pi Day!

NEBULA 3

I finally got around to making the Nebula 3 blocks today.

There was barely enough fabric wide enough left to make the smaller versions.  I had to piece together a couple triangles to make it work.

I also got the Shattered blocks out and put them up on the wall.  Hopefully tomorrow I can sew them together.

QUILT DELIVERED

Darrell and I took the Opening Night quilt over to Nicole and Victoria's new home and installed it on Victoria's bed, along with the pillows I made, too.

I love how it looked on her black bed.  I hope she enjoys it.

SKINNY STRIP QUILT TOP

I squared down the blocks and put together the little top made using the two Skinny Strip blocks I made from Jenny Haynes workshop.  It's about 35" by 42".

It is inviting me to do some interesting quilting on it.

SKETCHING PLAYLAB

I've been trying to get a spot in the Sketching Playlab sessions each month.  This is my second time participating.

This one was about 'Texture'.  Very fun.

BEAN SOUP

Wednesdays have been our shopping day lately.  It seems to be the least popular day of the week so there aren't very many people in the store when they open at 6am for elderly/at risk shoppers.

After we unloaded our groceries at home, we went over to a little coffee shop/cafe a few blocks away called The Birdhouse.  They have really nice gluten free options.  I got a breakfast sandwich and Darrell got a breakfast bowl with scrambled eggs, beans and bacon.

Waiting for our order.

Back home, I made a bean soup for us to have for lunches for this week.

FOOD TRUCK LUNCH

We went down to South Park today to check out this food truck, Momo's Kebab.  I sketched while we were waiting for our food to be prepared.  The food was good.

SEW MODERN CONNECTION

I was invited to join a new group called Sew Modern Connection.  It is a group of folks meeting on the first Sunday of the month to discuss their work sewing Modern style quilts. We had show-n-tell and talked about Quiltcon.

I worked on my Skinny Inset Strip blocks from the workshop yesterday and got them up on the wall.  I still need to trim them and sew them together.  It will be a small quilt.

I also was finishing up the quilting for some pillow shams.  I had Eduard working on them in the background.

SKINNY INSET STRIPS

I attended a zoom workshop with Jenny Haynes of PapperSaxSten today.  This one was about how to insert very skinny strips in the curve of a drunkard's path block.  It was a very informative workshop.  Not only is Jenny full of tips and information, but the attendees that you encounter in her workshops are also very talented.  You can glean a lot of ideas and inspiration from them.
