NEW WHEELS

I was so impressed with the new roller blade wheels I got for the chair I use while sewing that I bought some for my saddle chair.  (It's old wheels were full of thread and not working very well).  It rolls very smoothly now.

FIRST FEW ROWS QUILTED

I spent a little time quilting on Eddy today.  I'm doing straight lines vertically, which means walking back and forth in front of the machine.  My knee isn't up to a long time doing that, so I only got about two and a half rows done.  I'll do just a bit every day until it's finished.

WAKE UP ERIK

It's been quite a while since I used my longarm, Erik.  I've been recovering from my left knee replacement.  But, I loaded the Eddy quilt's backing onto him today.

I looked for batting and all I could find was a Hobbs Tuscany cotton/wool blend.  I guess I'll have to use that.  Then I ordered some small Dream Cotton battings, which won't be here until next week.

EDDY'S BACK

I worked on the backing for the Eddy quilt yesterday and finished it up today.

It's made entirely from fabrics that were in my stash and leftovers from the front.

I think it's got to be one of the ugliest backs I've every made.  Ha!

JELLY TURNS SEVEN

Today is Jelly's seventh birthday.  We stopped at our regular spot for her annual birthday picture in Lincoln Park.  I'm just getting back to taking walks in the park since my knee surgery.  I'm walking pretty slow, Jelly gets frustrated with me.

GLUING AND SEWING

I've been working on my Clock Pi blocks - little 2" Drunkard's Paths that will make up the 4" clock blocks.

I find it easier to glue these small seams together before sewing.  So, that's what I've been doing while watching TV.

This morning I was gluing while watching one of January 6th Congressional Hearings.

Then at noon, I met up with the Brave Patch Monday Sewcial gals where I started sewing them all together.  There's a lot of them - and this is not all that I will need.

CUTTING A HOLE

I drew out a circle on freezer paper to use as a template.  Then, using a heat erasable pen, I traced the circle onto the quilt top.

Then I cut the circle out.

After finding the perfect solid green fabric and cutting a half inch from the previous circle template, I traced it onto fabric.

Next step was to pin and glue it onto the cutout circle.

Sew and press it flat.

Using a ruler as a guide, I cut the border at 3/4" all the way around.

Sewing the rest of the top onto the cut-out circle was a little more difficult.

But, it was all worth it.  Here it is - the finished top.

ITS A TOP - SORT OF

I got all of the rows sewn together today.

It's not officially a top yet, because I'm going to cut a circle out of it and re-insert it.

Stand by!  This could be fun.

SEWING ROWS

Yesterday was the first Sunday of the month and I attended the Sew Modern Connection zoom meeting.  I was only able to sew a few rows together because I couldn't find a comfortable position for my inflammed left leg.  I left the meeting early.

Today, Monday, was a Brave Patch Monday Sewcial zoom meetup.  I continued to sew the rows together on the pink and green HST blocks.  I figured out it was better to sew the whole row together and then get up and press the seams open.  Yesterday I was trying to press each seam as I went, which meant turning back and forth to the ironing board.  That was what made my knee unhappy.

They are now in six sets of two.

BLOCKS ON THE WALL

I went upstairs to the studio this morning - the first time since my left knee replacement surgery on May 16th.

I got those green and pink HST blocks up on the wall.
