NETFLIX BUYS IT

 Holy Smokes!  Netflix contacted me back in May about using the image of my quilt, Suspended, in one of their productions.  Since the design was by Jenny Haynes of Pappersaxsten (she calls it Floating Stairs), I explained I'd need to contact her to get her okay before any agreements could be made.

Jenny agreed to sell the rights to the image and we would split the proceeds.

Round and round things went, and we've finally settled on them buying the quilt from me for $1000.  Oh my, it's very exciting.  I can hardly wait to see it in this production, but we'll have to wait - the show, Jigsaw, won't be out until September of 2022.

ON THE LA

 I got the Rhythm in Blues quilt top loaded onto the longarm.  It took at least an hour to get everything lined up and straight.

Then I stitched some straight lines in the white outside.

This is going to be very challenging to quilt.

URN FOR MOE

 We went on the West Side Art Tour yesterday - and it was a beautiful day, too.  

There were ten stops along the way at artist's home studios.  It was very fun and interesting to see them.  There were several artist's sharing the space and displaying their wares.

I saw this small urn and fell in love with it.  It would be perfect for storing Moe's ashes.  They have been in a very plain wood box.  This will be much more pleasing.

SATURDAY WALK

 Jelly and I walked around the neighborhood this morning, with a short stop at the Barton Pea Patch.  Things are winding down there, but there were still some beautiful flowers and things to see.

THE BACKING

 Jelly and I went for a walk in Lincoln Park this morning.  I'm doing over a mile now, with lots of ups and downs.  Jelly loves being back in the park.

Back in the studio, I made the label and backing for the Rhythm in Blues quilt.  I used up some of the fabrics I over purchased.

PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER

 I got all of the quarters sewn together then put them all together.  And the Rhythm in Blues quilt is now a top.

Having problems with one intersection - I resewed it too many times. I finally gave up in frustration and left it - it's not perfect either, but I was afraid to pick it out again.

Now on to the label and the backing.  I can use up some of the leftover fabrics because I ordered way too much!

LONGER THAN I THOUGHT

 I thought I'd have these last two quarters of the Rhythm in Blues quilt sewn together today.  But, that didn't happen.  It's taking longer than I thought.  

Along the way there was these ovals that were sewn in.

I just have two long seams left and then the four quarters will be ready to be sewn together.  This is the backside with seams pressed open.

BIGGER STILL

 I sewed together half of the quarter section of the Rhythm in Blues quilt.

Just one fourth of the quarter left to do then I can sew the quarters together.

GETTING BIGGER

 I sewed on my Rhythm in Blues quilt quarters while visiting with the Brave Patch Monday Makers.

I got a lot done.  It's getting bigger - almost there!

JOE WORKSHOP 12.0

First Joe showed us a lot of vintage quilts from the International Quilt Museum that featured secondary patterns.  They included a lot of Log Cabin and Courthouse Step patterns.  The way the were set or colored created a secondary overall pattern.

Then he showed us a process to make an interesting effect.  

I used some of the vintage Yukata cotton print I've had to make mine.

First step was to make a block with a wave of color through it.

Then put a large print fabric, the same size, over the top and slash them both into one inch strips.  Then sew them, alternating, back together.

GOING TO SANTA CLARA

 My 'Seasons' quilt is going to the Pacific International Quilt Festival in Santa Clara!  This is a first time I've gotten a quilt into this show.

I don't think we'll be going though.  The quilt travels much more than I do.

SPRING EQUINOX DONE

 I've been quilting on the Spring Equinox quilt and it's finally done!

A BLOCK

 I made a block for Curated Quilt Magazine.  They are asking for donations.

FLOWERS II PRINT IS HOME

 My print by David Weidman, Flowers II, is home from the framers.

I love it.

THREE JARS OF BEANS

 We put the dried beans into quart jars, there was a little bit more than would fit into three.

Then I added another bit to the ongoing quilt project.

THE NEXT HALF

 I started in on the two pieces that make up the other half of the Rhythm in Blues quilt today while visiting with the Brave Patch folks.

I got a little section done (for both quarters).

CLEANING THE BEAN CROP

 We picked the dried beans from the plants the other day.

Today we cleaned the beans and spread them out to completely dry for a day or two--and give the spiders and bugs a chance to skedaddle.

First, we put them into a pillow case and beat them a bit.  This will break open the shells and release the beans.

Then we go through and make sure all of the beans were released from their shells and separate them.

Then we have to blow the chafe away from the beans until they are clean.

Beans are then laid out to dry.

OOPS - WRONG SIZE

 I spent the morning putting together my little version  of Nebula 9.  It should have been the last one and complete the set.

However, I discovered, after I was all done making them, that they are the wrong size!

I'm out of fabric and I need these blocks to make the smaller version.  Dang.

This is just so frustrating.  I hate do-overs.  And I really hate impossible do-overs.  (not enough fabric to do it over, unless I either take these wrong ones all apart and cut down each strip, or I buy more of these fabrics, or, I suppose, I could use similar but different fabrics - all very annoying choices that I don't want to do).

Here's where I was so happy that I finished the last of the blocks for the smaller quilt.

Here's where I discovered that those last blocks were not the same size as all of the other blocks.  Aaargh!

I think I'll just put them away and think about this some other day.

HARVESTING

 It rained a little last night.  The rains are coming soon, I hope.

That means we had better harvest our Hidatsa bean crop today while they are dry.

So, we did.

I think we got more than last year.

Yum.

We still have lots of tomatoes coming on, too.

NEBULA 9

 I got the Nebula 9 block sewn together today.  That is the last block!  

Next will be the background and putting it all together.

ON A BREAK

 I took a break from working on the Rhythm in Blues quilt and started in on the next Nebula block, number 9.

I also did a little more quilting on the Equinox quilt.  

Jelly kept an eye out for the UPS driver and the cats in the yard.

LONGARMING!

 I cleared off all of the junk that I'd piled on top of my longarm and actually started quilting again on the Equinox quilt.  It's been months since I worked on it!

I was stymied about how to quilt it, thinking I wasn't good enough.

But, I've got to get things moving so I've got to do something on it.  

Let's just do it!

 I've got the two quarter pieces done.  That means I'm half done with the Rhythm in Blues quilt.
