BUSY SUNDAY

After breakfast and grocery shopping we went for a walk at Camp Long.

Jelly's eyes have been running and are red and swollen.  I didn't want to wait until Monday for our regular vet and thought I'd give the 24 hour vet a try.  I called, they said the visit would be only $30, which is cheaper than our regular vet, I think.  It turned out to be a definitely longer wait though.  We were very bored.

Bentley wants me to paint his portrait with the sunflowers.
I started on the next block in my flower series.

IMPRESSIONIST SUNFLOWERS

So, I started over with making an impressionistic painting of the sunflowers.

It went quickly.  I like it.

I did do a few more touches on this one and then I took it upstairs to put on some coats of sealer.

LAST ITERATION

I changed the table and fixed a few things.  I think it's done.

SUNFLOWER PAINTING START

I went to Daniel Smith today for my watercolor class.  Great fun again.

While in the store I bought some stretchers and made up a canvas when I got home and made a start on my Sunflower painting, outside under the gazebo on the picnic table.

BLACK AND WHITE TOP

I got the top done.

ANOTHER MARKET BREAKFAST

Well, it was back to Lowell's for breakfast again this morning.  Skyler had oatmeal with berries (she ate the berries and drank her hot chocolate).

Posing by our medallion.
We didn't spend much time there, and headed back home after a quick tour of the Market.  I bought some sunflowers.  I think I'll do a real painting.

I helped Skyler make a little pillow for her dolls from the leftover fabrics for her pillowcase.  [ Edit:Sara sent us a picture when she got it home.]

SKYLER COMES TO VISIT

We traded Quentin for Skyler today.  On the way back home we stopped at Joann's Fabrics where Skyler picked some sparkly unicorn fabric for her pillowcase.

While she and Darrell when biking around Alki, I made her pillowcase for her.

Jelly enjoyed the nice summer day.

MARKET DAY AND SEWING

Quentin is staying with us for a few days.

We went to Lowell's for breakfast, then wandered around the Market.  We walked up to the Rainier Tower, looking at the architecture of it and the new tower being built next to it.

Next stop was the Seattle Art Museum,  we had a few minutes before it opened, so I sat and sketched the Hammering Man.

Quentin enjoyed some of the exhibits.

He especially enjoyed the interactive activities in the Special Exhibit: Victorian Radicals.  There was a projector where you could arrange small pieces of plastic where they were arranged like a kaleidoscope and displayed on the wall above.  It was great fun.

Darrell and Quentin went up into the Smith Tower, while I stayed in the Irish Pub below and sketched.  They joined me afterward and we had a nice Irish lunch.

We took the light rail back to Westlake and then walked back to the Market and the car.
Unfortunately, we drove down to Alaskan Way where it took us the better part of an hour to go the half mile to get to Hwy 99 and out of town.  The traffic was at a complete standstill because of the construction, or should I say deconstruction of the old viaduct.

When we got home, Quentin and I made a pillowcase from the fabrics he had picked out.

FRIDAY LITE

We picked up Quentin early this morning.  He's going to spend the weekend with us.

First stop was breakfast at PCC.  He wanted waffles.

Then I went to Puyallup to drop off a couple of quilts for the Fair.

Back home, I worked on the black blocks for the Black and White quilt.  I have all of the parts made, but only got one block sewn together.

After lunch, Quentin and I painted.

I even did a quick drawing of Jax in the garden.

SOME OF IT

Well, I didn't have a whole day, but I did get the four-patches and the centers of the black blocks done.

B&W BLOCKS

I worked on the Black, White and Red blocks (I need a name for this quilt).

I finished the white blocks and have got everything cut out for the black blocks.

Need a long day to get the top together.

When I called his name, he chose to shun me.

L-SHAPED FOCUS

Part of our homework for this month was to create a design with an L-shaped focus.

Here's a watercolor I did from a photo I took of the Port Gamble cemetery.  I added the shadows to make the L-shapes.

LIGHTHOUSE

This week's watercolor class was an image of a lighthouse at a sunset.

We learned about layering and dropping color into a pre-wetted area.

DISTRACTION

Instead of doing things I should be doing, I've started a new project.

It's a palate cleanser.

It should use up some of the black and white prints I have a draw full of.

FIVE FLOWERS

I've almost got five flowers done.

I'm having problems with the diamond blocks and need to remake it.  But I love it!

SIMPLIFY

Today's lesson at my watercolor class at Daniel Smith with Jenna Howell was about simplifying a scene and only painting what's important.

This was great fun.

Here's the photo we were working from

My finished painting.

LONE STAR FLOWER

Yesterday I started on making the Lone Star Flower block.

I cut out all of the triangles and sewed together half of the first part of the block and then realized I had cut the diamonds out the wrong size.  Aaaargh.

So, today I re-cut out the parts in the right size.

I got half of one part sewed together.

AUGUST BEGONIA

I got the next border on my Begonia quilt.  I am loving it!

THE DEMISE OF THE VIADUCT

Darrell and I went downtown this morning.  First stop was breakfast at The Biscuit Bitch.

Then we walked down to the waterfront to take pictures of the Viaduct being torn apart.  There's getting to be not much of it left.
