ON BOARD FABRIC STORE

We stopped at On Board Fabrics in Edgecomb, Maine, a short distance off Hwy 1 on our way north up the coast.

Nice store, lots to choose from, I picked 20 fat quarters, since we were in a hurry.

Darrell spotted an old cemetery across the street, and was happily content wandering through it while I shopped.

Back onto Hwy 1, and a little north we found the Lie Nielsen store and it was his turn to spend some money.

NORTHEAST EXCURSION - DAY 2

After getting breakfast and some supplies at the local Whole Foods Market in Portland, we headed north.

First stop, was to make a short visit with a fellow woodworker in his studio in Brunswick, Kevin Rodel.  His shop is in a converted factory, which now houses retail, office and workshops.

Great building.

There are hardwood floors throughout

Interesting halls and throughfares.

We left Kevin after a nice visit and headed north on Hwy 1.  It was a very pleasant drive winding through little villages.  Along the way we stopped at a quilt store just a few miles off the main highway.  (See next post).

And we also stopped at Lie Nielsen, which Kevin had told us was right on our way.

We made it to Rockland where we had lunch at a restaurant on the water, The Landings.  We had to have lobster, so the only thing that was gf was Lobster Risotto, which we both ordered - it left something to be desired.

We had to touch the Atlantic Ocean before we headed inland.
We left the coast and headed inland, our next stop the capitol, Augusta, where we toured the State House.

After a nice tour of the capital building we continued through Maine, with a few stops along the way to enjoy the scenery.

Then we headed into New Hampshire, where we spent the night in Gorham, arriving just as the sun was setting.

NORTHEAST EXCURSION - DAY 1

Darrell is scheduled to teach a workshop in Rochester NY, so we decided to make a short vacation of it and tour the Northeast to see the fall colors.
We left SeaTac early Monday morning, flew into Newark, NJ, where we laid over for our short hop to Portland Maine.  This is the first time either of us had been in NJ.

A pigeon in the terminal at Newark
We had several hours to wait in very small Terminal A, so we ate lunch and I sketched for a while.

Pen and watercolor sketch.

The first bird I was in Maine, in the airport.

We picked up our rental car and headed to our hotel, La Quinta in Portland.  The gals that checked us in recommended a few restaurants and we headed out for dinner.  After walking around a bit we settled on Ri Ra, an Irish pub on Commercial Street, next to the water.  Darrell had Bangers and Mash, I had GF Fish and Chips.
