GETTING AHEAD

I haven't been working on Frolic, which is on the machine and is only partially quilted.

But, I made these City Sampler blocks today.

It's still very hot out.

FIXED IT

I fixed the City Sampler block I made incorrectly yesterday.

I just had to unsew the center seam, swap the two parts and sew them back together.  Done.

It doesn't look like how I had planned it though.

I made the next block, too.

Darrell and I went to the Alki Art Fair.  The weather was nice and cool with a slight marine breeze.  We walked up and down, bought a squirrel sculpture to put up outside, then left to go have lunch.  We went to Soaring Hearts to test out a new mattress for him.  They are very expensive, we have to think about it.

After we got back from our day out I made a set of Mortar and Putty blocks.

WALL ART

In the process of moving the sewing table and adding a bookshelf for the solids, I decided I didn't want my rulers on the cutting table.  So, Darrell made a board that fits into this odd space on the wall and I stopped to get little nails today.

I arranged the rulers on the wall.  I love it.

Then I made another City Sampler block, then I organized my new thread drawer by putting dividers in it (what a pain).

Geez, I just realized I did this block backwards.  I think I better make it over.
Stand by.

ALL OF THEM

I took all eight of the Moda Block Heads 2 blocks that I've made so far and put them on the wall.

I worked on the Mortar and Putty blocks, then made another City Sampler block.  Then it got to hot upstairs in the studio.

BLOCK 8 VARIATION

Moda Block Heads 2 Block 8 was released this morning.  It's a Jan Patek appliqued Pineapple in her primitive style.
I just couldn't see it working with my fabrics.  Luckily Corey Yoder published a variation.

I went with hers.

I was making decisions and cutting out the fabrics for it while Eduard worked on the Frolic quilt.

After he was done with his part, I filled in the blank spots and did some stitch-in-the-ditch around the medallions.

After lunch, I got it sewed together, then made another City Sampler block before it got too hot up in the studio.

THIRD BOBBIN

Before I started this Frolic quilt, I made three bobbins.  I figured that would be enough.  I put the third bobbin in today, and I'm not even done with the first row.  Guess I'll be making more bobbins.

The quilting is much more dense than I normally do.

While Eduard was working on his own, I got a couple of City Sampler blocks done.  Here is 49 and 50.

This block 50 has 30 pieces.  Yea.

TIRED HEAD

I got the backing and the top loaded onto Eduard yesterday.  I got out some batting - a twin sized Dream Cotton Select White.  It's 72" by 90".  Frolic is 75" square.  Hmmm.

Being the cheapskate that I am, I couldn't see using a bigger size bat.  I thought about stretching it out to fit - knowing I'd probably have troubles about half way into it.  Darrell came up and said,  why don't you add some to the sides?   Hmmm.   Good idea.  I don't usually do that, but I can't think of a reason not to.

So, this morning I cut two 5" strips off the bottom.  Took them over to the Bernina, sewed them end to end then brought the whole bat over and proceeded to sew them back onto the short side.

That's what happens when you don't get enough sleep.

So I cut it off, made double sure I turned the bat a quarter turn and sewed it on the side this time.  It was actually easy to tell, because the dimples were going in opposing directions.    Okay.

I got some good work done.

I used a computer motif for the corners.  It was too small and left some blank spots, so I free-motioned to fill it in.

ON THE BRIDGE

I took Floral Trails around and took pictures of it, finally.

BACK DONE

Got the back for Frolic done.  I don't like it, but it's done.

It's weird for me to make stuff with white or whitish fabrics.  Look at all those places where the quilting will show.  I used to get busy fabrics for the back, so the quilting wouldn't show.  Look at me go.

I used up the strips from the jelly roll that I didn't want to use on the front (because they didn't fit in and would have looked funny).

They look funny on the back, too.  Waste not...

I worked on the Mortar and Putty blocks, too.  I'm looking for a new name for that quilt.

SOLIDS AND SOLIDS

It's Moda Block Heads 2 Wednesday!

Here's today's block, "Spin Cycle".

I know, I got it going backwards, oh well.
After that I worked on organizing my new solids shelves.  I had this month's shipment to add, too.  I put them in order of the older color card that I have.

PICTURE PERFECT

I finally got around to taking photos of the Brassica quilt.

The afternoon got up over 90 degrees, so I finally went in (to the air conditioning) and worked on the binding of this quilt.

SEWING BINDINGS

I sewed on two of the bindings today.

This one I sewed onto the front and will hand sew the back down.

This one I sewed onto the back first, then sewed it down on the front.
While I've been purging and cleaning I found this treasure.  It's a bag of 500 4" squares of plaids.   I'm going to use them as enders and leaders.
