SEWING SCRAPS

There are a lot of scraps from the Round and Round project.  And a lot of them are strips.  So I started making Log Cabin type blocks, more round and round.

I've been making blocks for a couple of days now.  The scrap pile is much smaller.  I'm holding some back to use as filler when I put all of the blocks together.

THE GHOST IS READY

I've been working on the applique and embroidery on this old quilt top and it's finally ready to be quilted.

The top, made of small Log Cabin type blocks, was pieced sometime in the 1990's.  It was a pattern by Terri Nussbaum.  It's languished ever since.  I put it on my UFO Challenge list this year.  It's number was drawn by Quilting Mayhem this month.  Which means I need to finish it before the end of May.

LOG CABIN AROUND DONE!

This is finish #6 for the year!

I got the quilt trimmed and bound today.  It's done.

It is made from strips found in my Gold/Brown and Purple scrap buckets.  Didn't make much of a dent in the Golds or Browns though.

QUILTING LOG CABIN AROUND

I got out the Log Cabin Around quilt top and backing and loaded them onto Erik the Longarm.  I programmed a pantograph in and got started quilting.

I got it finished by the end of the day, but didn't have time to unload it.

BACKING FOR LOG CABIN AROUND

I got the backing for the Log Cabin Around made today.  I used some Log Cabin blocks I had made from that same scrap bucket that the front was made from.  And the rest of the fabrics are some old ones from my stash.

LOG CABIN AROUND TOP

I've spent most of my free time sewing on this Log Cabin Around for the last week or so.  And today I got the top finished.  It finishes at 68" by 83".  Perfect.  And, happily, it's reduced two scrap buckets by quite a bit.

SEWING STRIPS TOGETHER

I working on the Log Cabin Around, sewing scrap strips together, then sewing them Log Cabin style around and around and around.  Today I took time out to finish sewing all of the same sized strips together into long, long rolls.

The only thing left in the container are really narrow strips.

AROUND THE CABIN

Went around and around the Log Cabin today, adding more strips.

TUESDAY TO-DO

I was expecting to make this week's improv block today, but Cheryl had something come up and postponed it until tomorrow.

So, I was straightening the studio up a bit and ran across a container of strips I'd sewn together into very long strips.

I started sewing them together in a Log Cabin style.  I just kept going round and round until Jelly insisted we go in for dinner.

I can see doing this until it's a bed quilt.

IMPROV BLOCK 40

Here is this week's improv week from Cheryl Arkison's Quilters Playcation 2024.  She is in her new studio space and is very happy.

SORTING THE BLUES

I sorted the scraps that remain in the Blue scrap bucket.  There were a lot of small bits.  So, I sewed some together and ended up with two Log Cabin type blocks.

There's still lots of littles left.

BLOCK 31 MAYBE

Cheryl didn't show up today for Quilter's Playcation 2024.  But, I did make the block from last week finally.

I think this is week 31, block 31.  I've lost count and she wasn't here to tell me.

WEEK 21 OF PLAYCATION2024

It's Tuesday at 1pm!  Time for Cheryl Arkison's Playcation 2024.  I tuned in and made this week's improv block.  It was based on a Log Cabin, but not.  This week my block ended up looking almost like Cheryl's.  I was able to make it using just scraps, too.

MORE PLAYING

I had skipped over week 29 of the Quilter's Playcation 2022 with Cheryl Arkison because I was all out of the dark teal, Everglade, fabric.   I got more in the mail yesterday.  I prewashed it and got busy making the improv log cabin block from her video.

LORETTO BLOCKS DONE

I got the last four rows of the Loretto blocks sewn on.  They are done and ready to be sewn together.  There are 30 12" blocks.

But first I need to get the Wildflower off the wall.

SIXTH ROW FOR LORETTO

I've been working on the Loretto quilt.  I got the sixth row done today.

I think there's four more rows to go.

LORETTO PROJECT

I saw a picture of a quilt that I really liked and wanted to make.  Of course, it's block based.  I really need a stress-less project right now.  This one isn't totally mindless, but its a lot easier than what I have been doing.

I had to draft the pattern, make a cut list and figure out the colors. I'm using Moda Bella 'Spice', 'Prune', 'Boysenberry' and Kona 'Ochre' and 'Peapod'.   I made two test blocks and discovered a math error (oh my!).  Luckily I hadn't cut out all of the parts yet.

So, today I cut up the fabrics and put the first little parts together.  There will be 30 blocks.

Here we go!  (it always takes longer than I think it will, too)

I thought a bit about the name.  I thought the colors reminded me of Sante Fe, New Mexico.  But, I didn't want to name it Sante Fe, that would be too limiting.  But, I thought, maybe a name that comes from that area, but doesn't sound like that area.  I looked at the map and the only thing I really like was Loretto, from the Loretto Chapel.  We visited there last time we were in Sante Fe.  Amazing place.

So, Loretto it is.

LOG CABIN BACK FINISHED

I continued working on the backing for Devolve that I started yesterday.  I used bigger pieces to get it up to the right size.

It's done.  Ready.  It's bigger than my design wall, so it goes down onto the floor.

LOG CABIN LABEL

I made a label for the recently finished top, Devolve.  I like using up the scraps on the back, so this time I'm doing it in a Log Cabin style.  I'm going round and round the label with the scraps and leftover strips.    Here's where it ended up today.  I used almost all of the small scraps, so tomorrow I'll start adding some big 'logs'  to get to the finished size, with the bigger pieces on the top so the label ends up towards the bottom.  At this point, it's about 24" square.
