PUYALLUP FAIR 2024

Darrell and I went to Puyallup to the Washington State Fair.  We haven't attended in years, so it was about time.  And, I had entered three quilts into the show and I had to go see them.

"Cincinnati"

"Amity: Baroque" I stood behind a lady and listedned to her talk about what she liked about this quilt.  That was fun.  D and I voted for this one for People's Choice.  Good luck #93!

"Tractor Beam" .  My Voltron type quilt.

Then we went walking about for a few hours.  We had scones right away.  They are smaller and sweeter than I remember from when I was much younger.

We saw the baby piglets, only a few days old.

And we had to see the Draft Horses.

We also walked through the grange to see the Giant Pumpkins and the displays.  We hurried through the retail vendors building and were accosted by several of them.  And we perused the goats.

It was something different and great fun.  But, since it was going to be a very hot day and we left at noon.

PIQF HAPPENING

I have two quilts at the Pacific International Quilt Fest (PIQF) in Santa Clara, California this week.

We didn't attend, but a friend who did sent me these pictures.

Thanks Jackie!

CINCINNATI DONE!

The Cincinnati quilt is done!  Well, almost done.  It's quilted and off the longarm.  I still have to bind it and bury the threads where I started and stopped the quilting.

It was close.  I ran out of thread on the last row.  I've been using  a tan Aurifil 40wt thread on the front and the back.  I started with a full spool, which I thought would be enough.  But, I ran out on the last row.  Luckily, I had the same color in 50wt, so the last couple of blocks have that on the front.

A FEW ROWS DONE

I need to quilt about two rows a day to get the Cincinnati quilt done before the 15th.

I made a little progress today.

QUILTING CINCINNATI

I got the batting and got the Cincinnati quilt top on the machine.

Here we go - only ten days to get it done.

LABEL AND BACK

I've finally decided to finish the Cincinnati quilt made in 2017.  Yep, 2017.

I had to look back to figure out when I'd made it.

I bought the fabrics from quilt shops in Cincinnati when we visited in June of 2014.  Darrell was making a video with a magazine there.

I started making the hexagon blocks in February of 2016 and finished it up sometime in early 2017.  I remember it was a lot of fun making it using the new book by Katja Marek, The New Hexagon.

I made a label and started on the back yesterday and today I got the backing finished.
Now it's ready for longarming.

SEVEN ROWS DONE

I've been sewing the hexagon blocks for my Cincinnati quilt together when I'm watching TV.  I've got seven out of eleven rows done so far.

I can see the end in sight!

Part of me doesn't want to see this end - at least the sewing by hand part.  I'm enjoying having something constructive to do while relaxing.  I think I'll pull out my old red, white and black hexagon quilt I started years and years ago and finish it!

CINCINNATI QUILT ON THE WALL

I finished the last few blocks this last week.

I could hardly wait until today to put them up on the wall.

I have more than enough, even after I use some of them for half-blocks.

It took me a little over an hour to put them up and move a few around.

Now I need to start sewing the rows together.

I COUNTED!

Maybe I shouldn't have, but I counted the blocks I have made so far.

No automatic alt text available.

102.

I haven't been posting pictures of my completed blocks, but I've been making them all along.

I need about 110 (some of those will be half-blocks), and I have 4 more hexie patterns to go.

BONUS BLOCK 9

After I got it sewed together, I noticed I had the triangle segments turned the wrong way.  So, technically this is not Bonus Block 9, its something altogether different.

Oh, well.

This is how it should have been put together:

JACQUI #31

I don't know why, but I only made one of the pattern.  Hence, only one block.
