A WALK IN THE SNOW

The weather has cleared after the snow and then the rain making it possible to get out and about.  The skies cleared and there was blue!  I took the dogs to Lincoln Park for a muddy walk.  They loved it and so did I.

FIVE IN ONE DAY

It was a laid back Sunday.  I didn't have to do all of the things I normally had to do to get ready for work.  So, it seemed like I had lots more time for myself!

I got five of the City Sampler blocks done after we returned from getting our weekly grocery shopping done, but not until I'd taken the dogs to the Westcrest Dog Park.  We exited one of the gates and went exploring in the woods next to the dog park.  They loved it, and were tuckered out for the rest of the day.

DOG FUN

For a while now, I've been trying to get the dogs to go up on this ramp at the dog park.  They wouldn't do it until I coerced them with treats.  Then it was easy.

BINDING BY MACHINE

Mom had some leftover pink fabric.  It was just enough for me to make bias binding for the Pink Elephant quilt.  I put it on entirely by machine for the first time.  And it worked out great!

I sewed it down to the back first, then used my wooden seam presser to press it over.  I clipped it down with my wonder-clips.

Then I sewed it down on the front, being very careful to get it right over the sew-down line of stitching.
The fall colors have been stunning this fall.  We are seeing spectacular trees everywhere - and I don't remember it ever being so colorful.

This is the grove of trees I've been taking pictures of all year and posting on Instagram.

They cut down one of my trees!  It's changed now.

Jelly and Jax have really been enjoying this weather, too.

Walk, walk, walk, walk, sniff, walk, walk.

I saw this Monkey Puzzle tree and was struck by the angles.

ANOTHER DOG?

We (me) thought getting a dog for Jelly would help her to relax when we need to leave her alone.

So, I contacted CA Russell Rescue again, and found a dog that looked a lot like Jelly and made arrangements to adopt him.

They are calling him Spirit (another name I don't like).

He is coming up from the LA area, this time it's one person who is making the drive all the way by herself.

Here he is on his first leg to go meet up with the van whose bringing all the dogs north.

Post Script:  After looking through his paperwork, I see at one point they were calling him Jax.  He answers to that, so his name is now Jax.

Looks like he was turned in as a stray in a town north of Sacramento.  He wasn't neutered when they got him, so that happened right away.  He is approximately 6 years old and semi-housebroken.

Welcome home, Jax!

NEW DOG BEING SHIPPED

I lost my mind again and decided to get a dog!

Working with California Russell Rescue again, I found a young JRT.  She started out being over a year old, when I said I wanted her.  Then they told me she was around a year old.  Then they told me her birthday was June 18th...quick calculation, she was just 7 months old.  I didn't want a puppy!

Then the guy that was fostering her tells me she's not housebroken.  But, it was too late, she was mine, and plans were being made to have her shipped up here.

I was allowed to follow her progress on her trip up I-5.  I was surprised at what a feat of cooperation it was.

She and other dogs are loaded into a volunteer's car in the Los Angeles area, then driven anywhere from 80 to 120 miles to the next volunteer, who takes the dogs and drives them on another leg.

They coordinate and keep in touch on FB Messenger.  I was also included in the group messages and followed her progress over two days as she was ferried up here.

From Salem Oregon northward, she was the only dog in the car.

Here are some of the pictures of the people involved (there were 18 legs!).

Thank you so much.

The little sweetheart came from a breeder who had named her P'NutButter Jelly.  The volunteers have been calling her Jelly.  I've been calling her Jelly when I speak to them about her.

I thought we'd probably find her a better name, but I think Jelly is going to be it.

NEW (Used) DOG

After much soul-searching, and I must admit, internet searching, I came across a picture of a great little dog up for adoption. Her name was Sally and she's a Jack Russell Terrier about 4 years old. I convinced the poor suffering husband that an adult JRT wouldn't be anywhere near as difficult as getting a puppy. He relented, knowing that there was a hole in my heart that needed filling.

We picked her up and brought her home (as a trial - yeah, right!) She was great, very quiet and well-mannered, but timid and scared. You gotta wonder what she's been through. Sixty days in a high-kill shelter in Bakersfield, rescued at the last minute by Ginger's Pet Rescue, http://www.gingerspetrescue.org/ who then shipped her up to the Seattle area in a dogbox in a van, and put her into a foster home with other dogs.

Her foster-mom was really great, we met at Southcenter where it was agreed we'd take her home.

We went first to Petco to get a leash, some food and a bed and other stuff. Petco wanted me to sign her up for freebies and they needed a birthday for her. Taken by surprise, the first date I could come up with is a date that is meaningful in Darrell's and my life, August 18. When we got back home I was reading 'Sally's information sheet that came with her and the paperwork listed her birthday as, you guessed it, August 18th! It's kismet, karma and Holy Cow! It was meant to be.
It didn't take us long to agree that Sally was not her name. Actually, it's just a name the shelter gives to an animal when they come in. Since she didn't respond to it anyway, we decided to change it.
We bounced around a lot of ideas, and settled on Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.

Welcome home, Lucy!
