MAKING A BACKING

I started making the backing for the Round and Round quilt yesterday.  This morning I made a label and then finished the back.

BACKING MADE

I spent most of the day making the label and backing for the Out of Africa quilt.  I used fabrics from my stash and almost all of the scraps from the front.

BACKING FOR SPIDER LEGS

I've been procrastinating, but I finally finished making the backing for my Spider Web project.  I've named it Spider Legs because it doesn't look like a spider web anymore.

I think I'm procrastinating because I don't know how I want to quilt it.  I've got a few ideas, but I haven't decided on anything yet.

BACKING FOR BIRDS IN THE AIR

This month's UFO Challenge with Quilting Mayhem in Snohomish, Washington, is #9.  My #9 is an old quilt top made in 1994, Birds in the Air.  The top is ready to go, but it needed a back and to be quilted and bound.

I've spent the last few days making the backing.  I'm using only fabrics from my stash, mostly greens with a few oranges.

Today I finished it, label and all.

BACKING FOR PLAID BRICKS

I stopped at Carriage Quilts in Des Moines looking for a backing fabric for the Plaid Bricks quilt.  I had an idea of what I wanted exactly.  But, I know how difficult it is to find that perfect fabric.  But, I was surprised that my ideal fabric was right there by the front door.  Easy Peasy.

So after prewashing and pressing out the wrinkles, I made the backing.

BACK FOR TREE TOPS

I started working to make a backing for the Tree Tops quilt yesterday.  I finished it today.  I used almost all of the scraps leftover from making the quilt top.

CATS IN PAJAMAS DONE

I made the orange binding for the Cats in Pajamas quilt and sewed it on.  This is an Elizabeth Hartman pattern.

It's done!

BACKING FOR LOG CABIN AROUND

I got the backing for the Log Cabin Around made today.  I used some Log Cabin blocks I had made from that same scrap bucket that the front was made from.  And the rest of the fabrics are some old ones from my stash.

OLDIES BUT GOODIES

We are rearranging furniture and getting rid of some to make room.  One of the things that wasn't needed was a quilt rack.  But, I'm keeping the quilts.  Here are four older quilts that have been hanging on that quilt rack for quite a while.

This first one is one I made right after the opening of Pieces Quilt Shop in Renton.  There were very few customers and I had time to sew.  This was made from the first collection of fabrics I bought for the store.

It is titled "All That Madders" made in 1996. 65-1/2" x 83"

The back -

The next is one of my favorites, made from Kaffe Fassett Shot Cottons.  I love how they are so soft.  This pattern was taken straight from one of his books.  It is titled "Square Diamond Quilt", made in 2003. 79"x86"

Even the back is Kaffe fabric.

This one was made from fabrics I collected while we were visiting Denver Colorado in 2009.  I made and finished the quilt in 2011.  78"x90"

Backing made from leftovers and some hand dyes I made for it.

Then there's this one.  It has no label !
I know I had these diamonds cut out and laying about for quite a few years before I sewed them together.  It is 95" x 95", too big for my design wall, so it's curled down to the floor.

I appliqued the leftover diamonds onto the backing.

BACKING FOR CATS IN PAJAMAS

I finally got around to making the backing for Cats in Pajamas.  I printed out a label, and inked it onto some Kona Limelight.

I had bought this Kaffe fabric with the big flowers specifically for this quilt's backing.  I used the leftover linen fabric that is the background on the front.   But, there wasn't enough so I added some Kona Limelight which is close in color but not the same to fill in the blanks.

SNAKE QUILT DONE

I trimmed the excess backing and batting from the freshly quilted Snake quilt.

Then picked a fabric for the binding.  I thought Kona Juniper, a dark green, would be perfect, but I had less than the half yard which I needed for the binding.  So, I added the little bit of Kona Pesto, a lighter shade of green.

I got the binding made and sewn on, it's done!

BACKING FOR CHECKERBOARD

I inked the label and put together the backing for Checkerboard.

I started with a twin sized flat sheet I'd purchased the last time I took Mom shopping at the Salvation Army.  It was quite big enough so I added some grey.

BACKING FOR PEACH FUZZ

I spent the last few days sewing the scraps from Peach Fuzz together to form a few slabs.  The scraps were mostly curves which made it challenging, but fun.  I was pleased that I used pretty much all of the scraps, with only a few small pieces left.

I used those slabs to make the backing for Peach Fuzz.

BACKING FOR COORDINATES

I've been working on the backing for the Coordinates quilt.  I got the label inked and incorporated into it and finished up the last few seams.

I did a little squaring up.  I never know if it ends up really square or not.  It's the most difficult and frustrating thing for me, squaring up the backing.

HUGS BACKING

I made a backing and label for Hugs and Kisses using that fabric I bought yesterday.  I used the leftover parts from cutting the 4" squares from the front to make a long strip.

NEEDS A NAME

This month's UFO Challenge quilt is this one.  I think the pattern is a variation of a Snails Trail block.  I made it in a workshop at the old Quilt Barn in Puyallup at least 30 years ago.  Oh my.

It is 60" by 67" and look, it has borders.

It needs a name.

I found this two yard chunk of fabric in my stash and used it for the backing.

SATURDAY WORKING

I love it when I can get things that I need to get done done.

While watching Joe Cunningham's Quilt Freedom Workshop, I managed to finish making the backing for this month's UFO Challenge quilt, Solstice Star.  I even got the label inked.  It's a big one!

Afterwards, I made three more of Cheryl Arkison's Playcation 2022 improv blocks.  These are such a nice break for me.

BACKING FOR NEBULA

I worked on making a backing for the Tula Pink Nebula.  I started that top in 2021 as a block of the month, making one 'block' a month for a year.  I finished the top and it's been languishing ever since.  I got a lot done before Brave Patch Finish it Friday started.  I inked my name onto the pre-printed label that came with the kit.

GROOVE SESSION: PLAY

It's time for Brave Patch's Groove Session with Sherri Lynn Wood this morning at 9am.

She gave us some prompts and we spent a pleasant half hour improv playing.

Here's mine:

Afterwards, I finally made the binding and sewed it onto Loretto.

It is done and ready for a new home.

I love how the backing turned out.

BACK MADE

I found some interesting fabrics in my stash and spent the day whipping up the back for City Noise.

I like it!
