QUILTING BEGONIA

I actually started quilting on the Begonia Quilt yesterday and got close to halfway.

After lunch, I worked on it again.  And this time I remembered to take pictures.

I got to about the 3/4 mark, but stopped when I got tired of redoing parts.

I thought I should show exactly how I quilted this 'petal' design in case someone is interested in doing their own Begonia quilt similarly.

I used a 6" circle (which measures 5-1/2") and this little arc which fits perfectly in a 3" square diagonally.

And I used this circle (it measures 7") I found where it measures 5-1/2" across and put a piece of tape there.  I used the tape to then line the ruler up on the seamline.

BEGONIA BACKING

I've been down with a cold since Saturday, not doing much, just hanging around binge watching Netflix.  I've had no energy to do much of anything else.

But, today I was just bored silly, so I went up to the studio and finally finished the backing for the Begonia quilt.

I used the scrappy strips I had made earlier and set them with Kona Lilac.

LAST ROW ON BEGONIA

This month we added the last row on the Begonia Quilt.

She said that maybe next month there would be options - I don't know what that will be.

SEPTEMBER BEGONIA

I finally got around to adding September's rows to the Begonia Quilt.

I love September.  Summer is coming to a close, but the weather is just perfect.  The dogs know how to relax.  Lazy Jax.

AUGUST BEGONIA

I got the next border on my Begonia quilt.  I am loving it!

JULY BEGONIA

I got all of the half-square-triangle squares made and the borders put on for SeaMQG's Block of the Month for 2019, Begonia.  The rest of the months will be easier with just borders to make.  Hopefully, I've gotten all of the HST squares made properly!

It just keeps getting better and better.

[It's still really hard to photograph that dark Kona Regal color.]

All done!
We spent the afternoon at the hospital today, he had a colonoscopy.  Being the designated driver, I was required to hang around.  I took my sketching and watercolors with me.

ORGANIC FLOWER BLOCK

I finally finished the organic style of my flower block.  I've been working on it off and on for three days now.

Today is the first of the month, and the instructions for the next row of the Seattle Modern Quilt Guild's BOM Begonia came out today.  I only got the HST squares made and the rows sewn together before it got too hot upstairs.  I had to bail out.

JUNE BEGONIA

It's so exciting when the next set of instructions for Seattle Modern Quilt Guild's Block of the Month, Begonia come out.

I added the next rows today after making a bunch more Half-Square Triangles.

BEGONIA FOR MAY

This month's instructions for the Seattle Modern Quilt Guild's Block of the Month, Begonia, came out last night.

I was so excited to get out to the studio this morning to get to work on it.  I love this!

It's really difficult to get a good picture of this Kona Regal (dark purple).

And then there were all of these extra HST squares to make.  We're front-loading for the months to come.

BEGONIA MONTH 4

We got the next set of instructions for Seattle Modern Quilt Guild's Mystery Block of the Month, Begonia.

This is such a fun project, I can hardly wait to see what comes next.

Lots of triangles - we made more than needed for this month's borders.

BEGONIA MONTH TWO

Here is the second installment of Seattle Modern Quilt Guild's Block of the Month for 2019.

It's basically a bunch of half-square-triangle squares and we are making them eight at a time.  Easy-peasy.  I like it.  You put two 8" squares together, then make a diagonal X on the back, sew a quarter inch on each side, then cut on the lines and also in the other two directions to make eight squares.

Then you square them down to 3-1/2" squares.

BEGONIA BLOCK OF THE MONTH

Seattle Modern Quilt Guild's block of the month for 2019 is called the Begonia quilt.  It's going to be mostly half-square-triangle squares.

First month's assignment is to pick fabrics and make the center.

I'm using the fabric I got at the recent Love of Stitching meeting the CQA guild arranged that got the CQA the SeaMQG and the Seattle SAQA together for an afternoon.  It was fun.  We traded fabrics at the end.

This yard of fabric is definitely not something I would have bought on my own.  But it's going to be a great jumping off point for this project.

Wow, right?

Here's my ten fabrics and my Swatch Panel to keep them straight.

And then here's the first month's assignment, the center square and a few small square-in-a-square blocks to be saved for later.

The fabric used for that bigger center square was directional, so I cut it into four triangles and sewed them together in such a way as to make them more uni-directional (is that a word?), more bud-like (as in, the center of the flower).

The main fabric for this project, the dark purple, is a Kona called Regal.  I love it.
