SASHED

 I originally wanted to put white sashing with small black crosses in the intersections.  I have lots of Kona black, but I was surprised that I had no White.  

I looked through my white prints, but nothing seem right.  So, I went with this black and white strip that I fussy-cut to be all the same.  It turned out kind of funky.

OPENING NIGHT TOP

 During our weekly Brave Patch Monday Open-Sew meeting on Zoom I got the last large seams on my Opening Night quilt sewn.  It is big!  90" by 90".  It's always a pain to sew on something that big, but I got it done.  It's too big for my design wall.  Here's a picture of it as it flows down onto the floor.  

Now to make the label and backing.

MADE MORE SASHING

 The progress on Opening Night came to a screeching halt when I realized I was short about 18 sashings, I think I misread the directions (or they were misprinted).

I got them made and a few of them sewn on.

CHARMED

I picked up an Alison Glass Charm Pack of 100 5" squares at Quiltcon.

I just laid them out as them came off the stack with a black and white print sash in between.  I decided to leave out the mostly white ones.

VIADUCT GOING

We went to Pike Place Market today.  I wanted some Polish Pottery in a bad way.  We had lunch at Copacabana Cafe on the second floor off Post Alley.  It was nice - the sun was out.  The food was just okay.

We went down to check out the Viaduct and how it's going - they are in the process of tearing it down.  The view wa definitely more enjoyable without the traffic noise.

I worked on a project from last fall's Joe Retreat and actually finished the top.  I don't know what I'm going to do with it now.  Should I just quilt it?  If so, then how?  Answers appreciated.  Thank you.

BATTING ENLARGEMENT

In order to quilt my Modern Fans quilt, which is 56" by 56" I had to piece together some batting.  The only bat I had was 60" by 46".  Luckily, I had a big enough scrap.  I sewed a 14" piece onto the short side.  It will just be big enough now.  (I hope).

I used a nice wide zigzag on my new Bernina.  

I got everything loaded up on Eduard (my A-1 longarm) and started a pantograph going.  While that was working, I cut the sashing strips for my City Sampler quilt.

I figured I'd mark pencil lines across the width of the fabric to make it easier to line everything up.   Then cut all of the strips.    It worked out great.

ON TO ZOLA II

I loaded Zola II onto the machine and started in on it.  Last night I had gone to a ruler class at Quality Sew & Vacuum in Tukwila.  I've been going to these ruler classes monthly for the last several months.  They introduce us to a new ruler and show us the things that can be done with it, and how to use it.  You have the option to buy or not.  I bought this little oval ruler last night and thought I should use it on this quilt, in the sashing.  The sashings are 1-1/2" by 6", the oval is 1-1/2" by 2-1/2", so I put a little free motion circle in the middle of the two ovals.  I used the circle ruler I bought two months ago for the corner stones.  It's going pretty quickly and I'm mostly pleased with the design.

I put the binding on Zola I - it looks great!

I sewed the binding on by machine, front and back.

SOLSTICE TOP FINISHED

I got the top all sewn together on the Solstice Quilt Challenge and made the back.  I even gave it a label.  

I loaded the back onto the machine, but I'm waiting on some batting.

BUZZSAW QUILT FROM LONG AGO

I opened a project box.  These are hand-pieced twenty point star blocks that I'm calling Buzzsaw.  I can't remember their real name.  Anyway, I pieced these years ago, probably ten years ago or more and put them away for some reason.  I can't remember if I had a plan on how to finish them or not.  The box contains fabrics, templates, but no plan.

Maybe one of the reasons I put it away was because I ran out of one of the fabrics and I had no plan.

I put the blocks up on the wall.   I was surprised at the placement.  If I was making them today, I would have made five full blocks.  That would have made it rectangular.  But here it is - square.

I stared at it for a while and decided it needs sashing - or something...

I started auditioning some different sashings:

I went for a walk and when I got back I started cutting fabric and piecing sashings.

And here is what I have so far:

Now I'm thinking about what to put in the cornerstones.  I was thinking about some kind of whirling star block that goes the other direction.  Whirrr,  whirrr....

Maybe I'll add something to the ends to make it rectangular, too.
