CONTINUING ON WITH DALEK

I spent most of the day working on this little piece.  There was lots of sewing, unsewing and resewing - again.  This is a bit frustrating.

JOE RETREAT DAY ONE

Of course, I got up early.  I took my sketching bag downstairs to the main room and sketched the fireplace while somewhat in the dark.

One of the best things about this retreat is the great food we receive here at St. Andrew's Retreat house.  The chef, Tracy, believes in eating local, organic, wholesome foods.  He makes a great effort to supply gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan and now keto for those with dietary needs.  Yum, yum.

Our first assignment was to make a 24" by 24" composition, using only three fabrics, showing a transition from one color to another.

We started by just randomly cutting the fabric into pieces and then sewing them together.

I enjoyed this immensely.  I just grabbed one of the fat quarters blindly from the bag, then added some of the fabrics I had brought along to go with it.

This is mine.  That blue is the random print - I think a bigger print would have worked better.

MAKING THE BLOCKS

I re-drew my abstract drawings into Electric Quilt then printed them out at 5". 

I took these little squares to Staples and enlarged them by 300%, a half at a time, which printed them onto 11" by 17-1/2" paper, which once back home I then cut out and taped together to get 15" squares of each drawing.

I then trace the drawings onto freezer paper.  I'm using these real-size drawings to make the blocks.

Once I figure out where the seams will be and how to sew it back together, I cut the freezer paper template apart and iron them onto the fabric.

It's been fun, so far.

NEW PROJECT

After a gorgeous morning walk at Lincoln Park...

...I started a new project.

Instead of gathering fabric on our trip to Charleston to commemorate our trip, I gathered images.

Once home, I've been drawing abstracts of those images and memories.

Then, turning them into blocks...

Now to turn all of those drawings into blocks and into a quilt.
