NEW SEWING SETUP

I finally got fed up with the way my new Bernina didn't fit right in my old sewing table.

I bought new tables that I can raise and lower, so I can stand and sew if I want. 

The studio has been torn apart for the last week.  There was lots of assembling happening.  There is lots of cardboard and packing materials to dispose of.

The saddest part is getting rid of my old sewing table that my Uncle Don made for me in 1993.  It has been a faithful and very useful friend over the years.  I feel sad, but I don't have room to keep it.  I've had it on Craigslist with no bites, so far. 

I'm loving this new setup. 

Darrell made the table top for the cutting table, it spans the length of the backside.  It also rises up - which will be much more convenient for cutting.  He also put some peg board on the wall.  Now I'll be able to hang all of my rulers and cutters.  Hopefully, this will keep things more organized and easily accessible.  

BINDING DAY

I'm still working on re-arranging and purging the studio, but in between bouts of cleaning I made three different bindings for three quilts.

I was actually surprised to find the yardage for that brown one.  I had finished it's quilt a long time ago and was pissed that I didn't have fabric for the binding.  What do you do at that point!?  I was positive I had bought enough yardage for the binding, but I couldn't find it, so apparently not.  So I set the quilt aside.  And good thing I did, I realized I had bought enough for the binding when I found it today, I had just misplaced it.  So, it's done.

The green one I haven't even made a quilt out of yet.  I finished the top, and wanted to use the leftovers on the back, but I need to make sure I had enough for the binding.  So, I just made the binding and will set it aside (with the top this time) until it becomes a quilt in need of binding.

REMODEL

Here's the latest Splendid Sampler 2 block.  I really like this one's name.

Then I went to work on moving my sewing area down to make room for my new bookshelf.  I forgot to take a 'before' picture.  This first one is after I started moving things. 

Here's how it looked when I quit for the day because it was too hot upstairs.  The bookshelf is in place.  I'm going to give it a few more days for the paint to cure before I put the fabric into it.

I'm getting rid of those wall thread holders - they allowed too much dust to settle on the thread.  I'm buying some storage containers.  We'll see how that works out.

WRONG KIND OF PAINTING

Got a coat of primer yesterday and a coat of paint on the Fabric Case today.  Needs one more coat of white, and then I'm going to push it into it's corner and wait for the husband to install the hardware for the baskets.

Boring!               Turn the music up!

STARTING ON THE OTHER SIDE

Darrell got up early and made this case to house my fabric collection.
I've purchased a metal basket drawer system to store it in.
This box will hold the basket drawers.

 Those are the some of the baskets on the right.  Again, the studio is in a state of disorder, to say the least.

STUDIO CABINETS DONE! PRETTY MUCH!

Darrell installed the last two huge drawers on the bottom this morning. That means the studio cabinets on the south wall are pretty much done. I just have to put some touch-up paint on the front of the drawers where he put the screws in the drawer fronts. [you can see the fuzzy white patches in the pictures] I still need to put labels in all of the flat file drawers.

Here's the big 'pencil drawers' at the top, they are wide and deep.

And look at these huge drawers on the bottom. This one that is open has the bars for hanging files. There are slots for either letter size or legal-size depending on my needs. I think I will be storing my editioned prints and probably photos and drawings. The drawer next to it is just a big empty drawer about 11" deep 24" wide and 40" deep. That's where we'll hide the body.

STUDIO COUNTER TOPS

Darrell is giving me a few more half-days to work on my cabinets. Here he is making lots of sawdust, cutting the MDF and putting Lamellos slots in the ends to join the pieces together.

We brought the thee big pieces upstairs where he joined them together in place. That was the end of Saturday afternoon.

Sunday morning I found him up in the studio putting the mahogany edging on. He was pretty much done with that before we went out for our regular Sunday breakfast and grocery shopping. When we got back he put on the backsplash and finished up.

Then it was my turn to putty the holes, sand it down and put on a coat of clear urethane varnish. I love the golden brown color, with little uneven patches, that the MDF becomes. Over the next several days I will lightly sand and put several more coats on it. This will be a very servicable surface for many years.

You might notice that I put the new chrome handles on the big flat files, they match the handles that were on the other flat files. And, when I get drawers and doors, they will have matching handles also. The doors might be a while in the making, Darrell has to get ready for a few shows he's got coming up soon.
