DAY 4 SKETCH

 Here is today's 7DaySketchbookChallenge.  Today's prompt was Fruits or Vegetables.

I have not much of either in the house because we are leaving on vacation tomorrow.

So, I found these ceramic veggies I had, dusted them off and sketched them.

LAST OF THE TOMATO TARTS

 I made what will probably be the last of the tomato tarts of the season.

So good.

THREE JARS OF BEANS

 We put the dried beans into quart jars, there was a little bit more than would fit into three.

Then I added another bit to the ongoing quilt project.

CLEANING THE BEAN CROP

 We picked the dried beans from the plants the other day.

Today we cleaned the beans and spread them out to completely dry for a day or two--and give the spiders and bugs a chance to skedaddle.

First, we put them into a pillow case and beat them a bit.  This will break open the shells and release the beans.

Then we go through and make sure all of the beans were released from their shells and separate them.

Then we have to blow the chafe away from the beans until they are clean.

Beans are then laid out to dry.

HARVESTING

 It rained a little last night.  The rains are coming soon, I hope.

That means we had better harvest our Hidatsa bean crop today while they are dry.

So, we did.

I think we got more than last year.

Yum.

We still have lots of tomatoes coming on, too.

HALF WAY THROUGH

I've gotten about half way through piecing the rows together on my Covid-19 quilt.  It is made up of foundation pieced scraps from my scrap bucket onto 60 degree triangles blocks.  The triangles will finish at about 4" high and 4-1/2" wide.  I still have to make a few more blocks, and the end pieces that are a little bigger than half blocks.

It's getting heavy and it's only half way.

It's been nice, not only am I using up a lot of scraps, I'm using up the thread on bobbins to make them available for future projects. 

On another note, I made a chili-type soup for dinner using the dried Hidatsa beans we grew and harvested in our garden this last summer.  It was pretty good, too.

Just starting, before I added tomatoes and sausage.

GARDEN POTATO

SUNDAY FUNDAY

After our trip to the grocery store and a trip to the hardware store to buy a potato fork, Darrell dug up about half of our potatoes and picked some green beans.  We'll be eating potatoes for a while now.

We took the dogs to Lincoln Park for a nice walk.

Jelly loves hanging out the window.

In the afternoon, I worked on making a few City Sampler blocks.

After I took this photo, I realized I had the strips in the wrong order.  I picked it apart and fixed it.

Here's the correct version - this kind of stuff seems to happen more frequently lately.
