OUT OF AFRICA TOP

After a lot of frustrating unsewing and resewing and cutting to match, I'm finally done with putting together the Africa fabrics for this top.

And it's pretty close to flat.

ALMOST GOT IT TOGETHER

I really thought I could get all of the pieces of the Out of Africa sewn together today and I'd be able to call it done.  But this is the part that's the most difficult - trying to get all of the parts together.  The quilt is getting large which compounds the difficulty, too.  It's not easy getting it up on the sewing table and keeping it from wanting to slide off.

But I only have a seams or two left to do.  And maybe a few tucks.

GETTING IT DONE

I've been making some progress on the Out of Africa quilt.  I'm using several different shades of brown for the 'background' colors that will connect all of the fabric samples together.

That 'orangish' fabrics at the top is a color I'm thinking of using on the fabrics in that upper corner.

STARTED ON IT

I have finally started sewing the African Sample Fabrics together.  I'm making slow progress.  Almost every seam is a partial seam.  And I went with the brown background.

I've named this quilt Out of Africa after my favorite movie.

DEAR JANE A-11

I had apparently passed this block by because it was difficult.  I made it today and it was very difficult.  Almost all of the seams were partial seams, which isn't easy with 1/2" pieces.

But, I got it made, even if it isn't the prettiest thing I've ever made.  This is block A-11, Penny's Protest.

BACK TO THE BLUE SLABS

I've been working on the Blue SLABS again.  I started out trying to make pieces to join the blocks together, but that was time consuming.  So, instead, I'm just making the blocks I already have join together.  Sometimes that means adding, sometimes that means editing.

Here's how it looks so far.  I've got the left side all sewn together.  Lots of partial seams.

WORKING ON COORDINATES

I'm working on Coordinates a little bit at a time.  I sewed together a bunch of the little scrap pieces and am going to use them in the 'borders' that join the blocks together.

Today I cut into my precious piece of the 'background' fabric and made some of the  'border/sashing' parts and sewed them on, leaving partial seams.  Everything is going to need partial seams!

SLOW GOING

It seems these last few seams are really going slowly.  I've worked myself into a corner and it's a big puzzle trying to figure it all out.

I've finally got all of the pieces cut out.  Now I'm just trying to engineer how it put it all together.

There will be partial seams.

STARTED

I started sewing together my 'Things That Get In The Way' block.  I only got this far.  I got the parts all made.  Now to sew them together.  There will be partial seams.

MAKING BACK FOR DAISY

I've started making a backing for the Improv Daisy quilt.  It's really big and the backing needs to be even bigger.  I've been squaring up some of my old paisleys that are close to the right colors.  There's been lots of partial seams.  I'm having fun.

I don't want a center seam to go all the way down, so I need to switch some things up.
