STORAGE UNIT

Another block - made from a photo I took in Greenville, SC at the Lorraine Machine Shop.  Darrell wanted to stop there to meet the owner, Jerry.  Darrell has been a distributor of his multi-routers for years now.  

That's a multi-router there on the table behind Darrell.  Instead of interpreting the photo, I choose to do just a portion.  Behind them is that storage bin.  I drew just a corner of it.  

All straight lines with a few y-seams.  But, it had a lot of little pieces.  

Fun.

OTHER THINGS TODAY

I didn't work on the Carolinas quilt for the first time since I started, I think.

I did other things.

I did load a practice quilt onto the machine and wind some bobbins.  Yesterday, I had cleaned and oiled Eduard, so it's already to go.

Darrell and I took the dogs to the park for a nice walk inbetween rain showers.

Then, after lunch at Coastline Burgers, I planted some Narcissus in the garden, next to the Giant Alliums I planted yesterday.

Then I cleaned the leaves up around the pond.  They were piled up on the netting over the water and weighing it down.  Darrell suggested I use the wet/dry vac to suck them up and off the netting.  It worked great!

It was a busy day.

MORE BLOCKS DONE

I'm still putting together some of the Carolinas blocks.

I had already cut out the pieces and had them on the wall.  Since I've decided I'm happy with them, I'm sewing them together.  I'm not sure if this is procrastinating making the next few or what.

I was really excited to sew this next on together.  It has curves and ends up being a circle.  Very cool.  I'm glad I left it unfinished for a while, because I ended up changing the color of the melon.  It looks better now.

The next block is a close-up one of the lamps outside the main  entrance to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville NC.  I love how all of the points came together and the y-seams worked!  That doesn't always happen for me.

I'm hesitant to say what this one is fashioned after, but what the heck.  It's the back end of the harness and Rowdy's tail.

BUSY WEEK

I've been busy all week working on my Carolinas quilt.  

I got somewhat bored and frustrated in the middle of the week.  I wanted to move on to something else until I realized that I was frustrated because I was not happy with one of the blocks.  Once I figured that out my enthusiasm level went back up.

I got a bunch of the blocks sewn together and re-did the bad block.

WORKED ON THREE TODAY

I got up to the studio earlier than normal, before my morning walk.  I got the 'Nashville' block, that I had started yesterday up on the wall, then took the dogs to the park.

We woke up in a cloud this morning.  No, really.  This part of the world is completely engulfed in a cloud.   Everything is very wet, and it's only raining under the trees.

Back at it, I pieced the arc of the 'Dome' block and half of the yellow around it.  I'm not sure about the color of the 'melon' piece, so I just stuck it up on the wall to see how it looks with everything else.

Then, amazingly, I still had time to work on the next one, 'Ceiling'.

CAESARS HEAD BLOCK

I finished the Caesars Head block this morning.

But, that was pretty much it.  I started on the next block, but had to go.  We had lots to do today.

ON TO THE NEXT

I fussed and fumed with the parts of the 'Carriage Ride' block.  I eventually took it apart and re-sewed it.  It's better, but it's not great.  I'm settling and moving on to the next block.

So, I started working on the 'Caesars Head' block.  It's going together a lot easier and quicker.  It has only one gentle curved seam and a few 'Y' seams.

The hardest part is keeping it all organized.

 Figuring out how to sew it back together after I've cut it apart can sometimes be a brain twister.  Which is good, I guess.  My brain needs exercise.

Here's where I had to stop for the night.

PROBLEM BLOCK

This 'Carriage Ride' block is giving me a headache.  Things aren't lining up correctly.

The part that isn't fitting in, is the missing piece in the block above.

I give up for the day.

NEEDLE AND THREAD

I spent about two hours this afternoon making this part of the 'Carriage Ride.'

I hand basted the parts together, a half circle for each part - doubled.

The Kona 'Metal' fabric that I had ordered finally arrived yesterday.  I washed it (and all of the other fabrics I ordered) and added it to the stash.  

I've been waiting for that color.  I thought it would work in a few of the blocks.  I tried it out in the first block, 'Corn'.  What do you think?  I think it might be a little too dark.
