HOME AGAIN FRIDAY

I came home last night after the end of Thursday's workshop.  

The dogs really really really wanted to go for a walk, since they've been home all week.

It was a beautiful morning to go to Lincoln Park.

  

After the walk, I headed out to my Acrylics Class at Daniel Smith Art Supplies.

We are still working on our personal color wheel.

Darrell picked all of our green peppers yesterday, too.  Aren't they beautiful!?

DAY THREE OF WORKSHOP

Before the class officially started at 9am, I managed to get the fourth block done from from our first project.  

The morning light outside our window was fantastic and lit up this big maple across the street.  I need to paint it -- later.

Okay, added later, I painted this once I got home.

DAY TWO OF WORKSHOP

Patricia came in this morning and said, "Carry on!".

We spent the day working on our four blocks that we designed yesterday.

SEWING CURVES

First thing this morning, I reset the 'check tire' warning light in my car, then drove about nine miles into Mt. Vernon to Starbucks for my morning coffee.  I also got some egg bites for breakfast - the continental breakfast at the hotel leaves much to be desired.

The tire light did not come back on, so I guess the tires are okay.

On the way back, I noticed this house and it struck me as very 'vertical'.  I took a picture, then went back to the hotel and sketched it before class started at 9am.

Patricia had some quilts hanging as examples.

The workshop with Patricia Belyea from OkanArts began with a tutorial on using freezer paper to sew curves.  We began by drawing curves onto paper to make a design, then transferred the design onto the freezer paper squares, cut at full size, in reverse ( a step a few of us forgot to do).

LA CONNOR SUNDAY

I arrived around 3:30 or 4pm, I had a 'check tire' light show up on my car dash.  I made my way to a tire shop, only to find out it was closed.  The next one was much farther north, so I figured I'd just wait until the morning to have it checked.

I took my suitcase upstairs to my room and dragged all of my sewing stuff into the workroom on the main floor.

It's a nice room - it even has a gas fireplace.

We all went out to dinner at Nell Thorns Restaurant and got to know each other a bit.  We start working tomorrow.

GETTING READY

We all went on a nice walk this morning at Lincoln Park.  Darrell usually takes interesting pictures and posts them in Facebook.  Go look.

But, I spent a little time working on my Acrylics homework.

Then I made a little watercolor...

Then,  I've been getting ready for the workshop I'm going to next week.

FRIDAY ACRYLIC CLASS

This was the first of five classes I signed up for at Daniel Smith Art Supplies to learn about color and acrylics.  We spent this first class trying to figure out which colors sang to us so we could make our own personal color wheel.

It was fun.

SQUASH

LAST ROW ON BEGONIA

This month we added the last row on the Begonia Quilt.  

She said that maybe next month there would be options - I don't know what that will be.

WEST SEATTLE PCC RE-OPENS

We were at the new West Seattle PCC when it re-opened this morning at 9am.  

To say we weren't the only ones there is an understatement.

There was even a band.

It was a long happy line, with free coffee and cake.

We weren't at the end of the line for long.  

They were handing out 2 lb bags of coffee to the first peoples in ...we got the last bag.

The store was beautiful, but too crowded, we left early.

TUESDAY WATERCOLOR

TOP TOGETHER

It didn't take long this morning to get the other borders cut and sewn on.  And, as a bonus, there was no picking out any seams.  Everything went together quickly and easily and I was done before lunch.

It was a beautiful morning, but a little chilly.  It snowed in the mountains yesterday.  We really enjoyed our walk and seeing the beautiful Olympics.

And squirrels...

I wonder what's down there...oh my.

SETTING TROUBLES

I decided to just go ahead and set these blocks and not fuss over how.

I had lots of problems.  I was picking out just as often as I was sewing - well, not really, but it sure felt that way.  I had to pick apart the diamond block - it was too big.  I figured out a way to save it.  I did not want to remake it - again!  

Once I got that block the right size, it did go together very nicely - everything lined up and measured out.  The other problems I had were stupid ones, like sewing on the wrong fabric, sewing a whole border on backwards, right side to wrong side.

I had to give up and go in for dinner - which was probably a good idea.  Tomorrow is another day.

FLOWERS FLOWERS FLOWERS

Finished the sixth block...

Now I just have to figure out how to set them.

I tried a couple of ideas and gave up in frustration.

NEXT FLOWER BLOCK

I came to the conclusion I had to have one more Flower block.

I started in on it today, paper-pieced.

PLAID TUMBLER

I finished the top for this little plaid tumbler. 

I made this little watercolor from a photo Darrell took.  I submitted it for Etchr's #makemoreartMondays prompt on IG.

PEARS AND RIBBONS

I picked up my quilts from the Puyallup Fair today.  I was pleasantly surprised they both had ribbons.

"Carolinas" won first in Small Quilts Original Design and an Award of Merit for Quilting.  Woo-hoo.

"Trinkets Six" won a third place in Large Quilts.  

HEADACHE

Man, I woke up with a killer headache today.

I did manage a short, slow walk through the park, but, I couldn't bring myself to go to my Watercolor Class.

I came across this stack of Tumbler plaid pieces the other day and left them sitting out.  They are from way back, when I owned Pieces Quilt Shop.  We had an exchange with the intent of making a bag from them (one of the teachers was teaching the pattern).  

I sewed them together today.  It was a somewhat mindless project.  There were about 120 pieces, so I figured 12 across and 10 down would be about right.  I should have made them a little wider and shorter.  Oh, well.

I added these navy blue pieces to the edges.  Now, to figure out how to finish it.

I love plaids.
