HAILEY DAY OUT

We've had Hailey for the week.  Today was our day to go downtown.

First stop, of course, was breakfast at Lowell's in Pike Place Market.

Next stop was the Seattle Art Museum.

Here are some of the things we saw in the "Radical Victorians: From the Pre-Raphaelistes to the Arts and Crafts Movement" exhibit.

There was an interactive exhibit where you could arrange items and it would kaleidoscope them and project the results up onto the wall.  We also drew little pieces of art that we left there.

After all of that, we went to lunch at Cafe con Leche then onto a cat cafe, which was the most important part of the day for Hailey.

MARKET BAG

Someone posted a pattern to make a Market Bag from charm squares.

Here's mine.  I used some 'cat' fabric charms I've had around for a while.  I put the  basic structure together and quilted it on my longarm, Eduard.

Q BLOCKS

Okay, still bored and working on this old project.

P BLOCKS

I just wanted to something simple and  mindless this morning.  So, I pulled out the neglected Alphabet quilt blocks I've been working on and did the P blocks.

It's been a while, so I didn't have my head into it and made the HSTs too big and had to trim them down.  I'm running out of the fabrics and I feel like I wasted some with this mistake.

JAPANESE GARDEN

I don't really like the way this turned out.  But I like using  ink to outline everything.

STRAIGHTISH LINES

I'm quilting the Plaidish quilt.  I'm making just straight-ish lines across it one way, then the other way - sorta like a plaid!

I got the long way finished today.  Now I have to turn it and quilt it the other direction.

GETTING READY FOR CLASS

My Design Class meets tomorrow and I have been busy finishing up some of my projects.  I've been hand appliquing the circles onto this abstract flower block.  I love it.

They are looking good.  What's next?... I want to make some more flower blocks in different styles - enough to make a quilt.  I still have to make one that is 'realistic' looking.  

I also finished sewing the rows together to get this little quilt top ready for class tomorrow.

LUNCH OUT

Julie, Mom and I went out for our monthly lunch today.  

We went up to Snohomish.  We ventured through a few antique stores and had lunch and talked and talked.

While in Snohomish, I had to stop to see their quilt shop, Quilting Mayhem.  

Wow, I was really impressed - what a huge, nice place.

MAKING CIRCLES

I got the little circles ready to applique onto my Abstract Flower block.

CHANGE OF DESIGN

I couldn't figure out how to sew up my original plan for this block, so I changed it.

SAIL BOATS

We painted a couple of sail boats in my watercolor class today.  Here's everyone's completed paintings.

WOODWORKING

I helped Darrell with the splitting of the huge rounds from the tree in our front yard that we had to have cut down last year.  It took up pretty much the whole day.

He rented a splitter, I operated the wheel barrow, taking it all into the back yard.  Stacking will happen sometime in the future.

NEXT BLOCK

The next block in the flower series I'm doing is supposed to be made in an abstract style.  

I've made a drawing, but I'm not sure how to sew it.

I started in, paper-piecing this part.  Here I caught an upside down piece before I sewed on the next piece.  It was a somewhat easy fix.

But, I didn't realize until I was about to put the last piece on that I had done it wrong.  So, options are to use as-is or spend another hour or two re-doing them.  I set them aside and made the little quarter circle parts.

I got frustrated and moved on to a different homework assignment.  I cut a bunch of 60 degree triangles and put them up on the wall.  The assignment sas to feature that fabric with the red dots prominently in a project.

PLAIDISH BACKING

I got the label made and the back put together for the Plaidish quilt.

It looks like a pirate with one white tooth.

Today was a zombie day, all day.  I got less than 5 hours of sleep.  I sat up with Jax watching TV at a high volume to drown out the sounds of bombing and explosions that went on from 7pm to after midnight when I finally gave up and went to bed.  Jax woke up after that and did bark a little bit.  He woke me up a couple of times.  I think the explosions stopped around 2am.

I'm glad I had an easy project for the day.

PLAIDISH TOP

I sewed the rest of the rows together for the Plaidish quilt.  

I had to make a replacement block for the one that disappeared the other day.

I found the lost block in the Roomba - it was not usable.

I started putting the back together, too, but I ran out of time.

ABSTRACT FLOWER DRAWING

I worked on drawing the Abstract Flower for my Design Class.  This is one fourth of the flower design.

I have no idea how I'll make this in fabrics.

Since I'm stymied, I worked on a mindless project - sewing the blocks together on Plaidish, which is taking up my design wall.  I got two rows sewn together.

(I have no idea what happened to that missing block either.  I've looked everywhere.  It was up there a few days ago.)

JULY BEGONIA

I got all of the half-square-triangle squares made and the borders put on for SeaMQG's Block of the Month for 2019, Begonia.  The rest of the months will be easier with just borders to make.  Hopefully, I've gotten all of the HST squares made properly!

It just keeps getting better and better.

All done!

We spent the afternoon at the hospital today, he had a colonoscopy.  Being the designated driver, I was required to hang around.  I took my sketching and watercolors with me.  

ORGANIC FLOWER BLOCK

I finally finished the organic style of my flower block.  I've been working on it off and on for three days now.  

Today is the first of the month, and the instructions for the next row of the Seattle Modern Quilt Guild's BOM Begonia came out today.  I only got the HST squares made and the rows sewn together before it got too hot upstairs.  I had to bail out.
