I'm sewing scraps onto foundation squares.
I realized it was kind of silly to cut the big pieces down to use on these little 5-1/2" blocks. So, instead, I'm going to cut them first into 5" squares, then whatever I can I will cut into 3-1/2" squares and 2-1/2" squares. Whatever is left will be pieced onto my scrappy foundation blocks.
(this should clean out the bucket a lot faster, too)
