29 FACES - DAY 1

Here I go again.  I've committed to the 29 Faces in February Challenge again.

This time the challenge for me will be to draw a face from the Seattle Times every day.  I'm going to try to do one from the front page, even if I don't like it.

This one is a blind contour drawing of the face using my ink pen.  Then I looked while I filled in the rest of the drawing.  I used Derwent watercolor pencils and then applied a little water to blend it all.

This was drawn from a photo on the front page of the February 1, 2014 Seattle Times.  The photograph is credited to Mike Siegel.  (it doesn't look anything like the poor man in the photo).

  1. What a GREAT idea! (I draw a lot of people from pictures in our local paper.) And I like this drawing a lot. I look forward to seeing the next ones.

(And you do know that the link you posted doesn't take you to your 29Faces post, which is probably why no one has responded here.....)

  2. Hi Terry, This is a beautiful portrait - one of the only ones of a man so far! I just wanted to let you know that your link doesn't work. I had the same problem and another kind blogger helped me. Just do this: Click on 29faces, next to the word "labels on your post". Copy the address in the address bar. It will not have an html. Then enter that address into Mr. Linky and your link should work. We don't want anyone to miss your work!

  3. Thanks ladies, but I know it doesn't work. And I don't understand why because I did just as you described Sheila. I've even tried to redo it several times. It worked last time, in September. Sometimes computers are so irritating. (just sometimes?) I'll try again.

  4. I love bind contour drawings! I hated them in school, but they've been such a useful tool ever since and the line quality is hard to reproduce any other way. What a great way to start this challenge!
Also, I think I know what the problem with the link is....I don't see any labels on your posts. The label in the url is there as a search function to find posts with the same label, so if you don't label your post the same, it wont show up under that address. Hope that helps!
